You are not just anybody, you are a very outstanding and resourceful person. As the special person you are, the only thing that is good enough for you, is being the best. Why should another person be the alpha and you are just a member of the pack? You have all it takes to be the leader, the best.
The best is ‘’the first among equals,’’ who calls the shots and dictates the tune, while others follow. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself, ‘’why do I always play the second fiddle?’’ Perhaps, you have been doubting your abilities, you have not really and fully looked inwards to harness your capabilities. You are afraid to venture, attain and conquer heights; then, this is for you.
Since, you have decided to be the best, the following 5 steps will take you to the top.
1. Harness your mental power
Your mental power is that special attribute of yours, which you are endowed with. A lot of people allow their mental power to lie fallow, rust, decay and to be under-utilised. Thomas Edison stated emphatically that ‘’most men never amount to much because they don’t think.’’
Mark Twain once said that, the average man didn’t make much use of his head, except for the purpose of keeping his tie. Prof. William James claimed that, an average man uses only about a tenth of his brain.
If what you have been doing all along, translates into using only a small fraction of your brain, what will it be like when you use the whole brain? You will definitely become the ‘’numero uno’’ in your chosen field.
2. Map out only perfect goals
You have a lot of things on your mind and you want to accomplish everything. All you need to ask yourself is, if everything is equally important. Create a sort of sieve within yourself, that can arrange all you want to achieve in a scale of preference. Select those goals that will take you to the top, where you rightly belong.
Remember that Michael Phelps said ‘’I think goals should never be easy, they should force you to work, even if they are uncomfortable at the time.’’ As you are doing this, however, remember to use the following cues:
- Don’t ever allow the cookies to crumble.
- Don’t put too many eggs in the same basket.
- Also remember that too many cooks will spoil your broth.
Once you are able to apply these small tips, I can assure you, that you will get home safe and dry.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – Les Brown
3. Turn on your internal generator
You have an internal generator inside you that needs to be turned on, once this is done you will be ready to go. The late Mohammed Ali, used this a great deal when he was the heavyweight boxing champion. He was fond of saying, ‘’I float like a butterfly, I sting like a bee’’ and also ‘’I am the greatest.’’ These were said often to the opponents, not just to weaken their resolve but also to turn on the generator within himself.
Many other successful people have done this too; Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook despite the odds of lawsuits and all. Bill Gates created Microsoft, Warren Buffett invests regularly despite the risks of unknown ROI.
When your generator is turned on, you become active, lively and invigorated. Your ‘’antenna’’ is fine tuned and you are able to recognise and fully utilise all the opportunities that come your way.
4. Don’t be deterred by mistakes
When mistakes are made, people tend to be discouraged. But what we completely fail to realise, is that mistakes corrected, breed perfection and one person’s success could be the beginning of a journey to another.
Winston Churchill aptly captured it by saying ‘’success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.’’ The legendary king Bruce of Scotland failed a number of times, but at the end, he succeeded in building the bridge.
Once you are courageous and have the right mindset, nothing stops you from attaining heights that you initially thought were insurmountable. At the top of the ladder you are the alpha, the best.
“Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.” – Bruce Lee
5. Don’t be distracted
Distraction is the worst thing you can allow in at this time. You need to be completely focused. You need to concentrate fully. Tell yourself the blunt truth, the reason you were lead was because you did not give it the required and necessary attention.
Peter Zumthor said on concentration, ‘’designing is a matter of concentration. You go deep into what you want to do. It’s about intensive research, really. The concentration is warm and intimate and like the fire inside the earth-intense but not distorted. You can go to a place, really feel it in your heart. It’s actually a beautiful feeling.’’
In conclusion, one serious thing you need to know about becoming the best is there is the whole wide world out there for you to conquer. Don’t box yourself in. If Bill Gates has taken the computer world, did he also take the tennis, football, medicine, engineering, fashion, literature and agriculture worlds?
If you have decided to be a chef, be the best, apply all the tips and you will see the rewards.
