11 Principles About Success From The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale

Over 60 years ago, an insurance agency owner named Earl Nightingale decided to record a motivational speech for his sales team. Although he didn’t know it at the time, this speech about success would grow so much in popularity that he would need to dedicate a significant amount of time to managing the demand. “The Strangest Secret” by Earl Nightingale sold over a million copies and earned the first Gold Record for Spoken Word.

The following principles about success from it still apply as much today as they did back then.

1. We live today in a golden age with abundant opportunities

There will be more opportunity this year and next than there has been for a while. A down economy is a breeding ground for new businesses and opportunities for people to reinvent themselves if they need to. It’s time to work on that idea you’ve kept hidden in a notebook for the last few years.

2. Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal

Success is not necessarily about making a lot of money. If you find your passion and love what you do, then you found success. If following your passion leads to the creation of something valuable, making a steady income should never be a problem.

3. 95% of people forfeit success for conformity

In an age of social media where everyone needs to be online, this could not be more true. Part of the problem is that smartphones and social media have been designed to attract people and eat up all our time. That’s why you should consider doing a digital detox in order to clear your head and find a path to success.

“All you need is the plan, the road map, and the courage to press on to your destination.” – Earl Nightingale

4. Instead of competing, all we have to do is create

We have more resources now for flexing our creativity. Open-source software, free YouTube tutorials, and low-cost methods of prototyping have made it very inexpensive to try inventing a new product or service. If you don’t like the idea of a 15 or 20 year race to hit C-level, focus on creating a solution to a problem instead. There’s definitely still sacrifice and long hours involved, but the rewards can be significantly greater.

5. People who set goals succeed because they know where they’re going

Nightingale makes a great analogy for setting goals in The Strangest Secret. He compares people who do or don’t set goals with ships. The ship that has its voyage mapped out with a captain and crew will arrive at its destination the majority of the time. It has a definite goal. The other ship doesn’t have its voyage mapped out, no crew, and does not know where it’s going. They send it out from a harbor and where does it go? Nowhere.

6. They both work hard

The best part of this analogy is pointing out how hard work isn’t enough. We can work really hard, but without setting the right goals, that hard work may not take us anywhere. I’ve definitely been in situations like this before. During high school, college or my professional life, it has always felt more fulfilling to be working toward a specific goal instead of going through the motions.

7. We become what we think about

This one needs some clarification. No matter how hard you think about becoming an 18-wheeler semi-truck, it probably won’t happen. What you can think about and weave deep into your brain is your goal. I know this works from personal experience. If you deliberately think about a goal right when you wake up in the morning and go to bed at night, it will start to affect your day-to-day decisions more and more. Gradually, you will end up on a clear path toward meeting that goal.

8. Believe and succeed

You can believe you’re a success and become one. There are plenty of people who have a lot of money that still don’t believe they are successful or feel unfulfilled. It’s because a lot of the time, money follows success, not the other way around. Nightingale wasn’t the first person to say this and he hasn’t been the last, either. Our mindset dictates our happiness and success, so it’s crucial that we take care of it.

“Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.” – Earl Nightingale

9. Everything worthwhile in life came to us free

Even if you were given a smartphone for free as a kid, that’s not what this means. Our friends, family, and our minds are all given to us for free. Things that cost money are very cheap and can be replaced pretty quickly. The paradox is that many people take things for granted that can’t be replaced. Whether it’s excessive drinking, drugs, neglect, or whatever – many people make worthless things a priority instead of focusing on what truly matters for finding success.

10. We must be willing to pay the price

Success will never come for free. Whether that’s having good relationships, good health, or a good financial situation. It always comes with a cost. Trying to avoid paying the price will only lead to more hardship. Once you understand this, it will make the journey infinitely easier than if you tried avoiding the hard work and discipline.

11. Ideas are worthless unless we act on them

Good ideas are a dime a dozen. I’ve had plenty and I’m sure you have, too. But ideas themselves don’t do anything. We need to take action instead of sitting around talking about how this or that would be a million-dollar idea. It seems like some people also tend to think that if they thought of something first, it belongs to them. History shows that even if you go out and file for a patent, competition can easily spring up. The only option is meeting your market with action as soon as you can, then building on that success with more.

When The Strangest Secret came out, it not only helped grow an industry of personal development but millions of individuals as well. If you take what Earl Nightingale said to heart and remain creative, set goals, think positive, and stay action-oriented, your road to success will be a lot simpler. Simple still doesn’t mean easy, but no worthwhile adventure should be.

5 Ways to Avoid Being Just an Average Joe

We live in a world where we are faced with comparisons every minute and every second. As soon as we check our phones first thing in the morning, the feeling of not being enough or extraordinary kicks in even before coffee. While it is good to be your own critic so you don’t get lazy and stay determined, it is unfair to keep comparing yourself to others.

Nobody wants to be average. We all want to be more but most of us are stuck at the thought of where to start. The internet is filled with tips and techniques to push your horizons and how to lift yourself up from the baseline set by those around you. For most, getting out of debt, budgeting, investing, getting insurance, time management, and thinking creatively are some of the benchmarks, which they think will make them better than an average Joe.

In our opinion, you shouldn’t set your goals on the basis of someone else’s horizon. Be bold, create your own sky and set your own limits! You do not have to prove yourself to anyone besides yourself.

However, if you feel like your happiness lies in being extraordinary or proving yourself to be better than an average Joe, here are some ways which can help you feel validated and proud of yourself:

1. Do Not Succumb To Media’s Unrealistic Expectations

We all want to see the best of content and the best of the lot on our news feeds every day. Nobody wants to see a below-average or a mediocre element of content first thing in the morning. While there are multiple reasons as to why this thinking is wrong, we will focus on just one.

To be honest, the content you come across on social media is not original. It is scripted and made with enormous amounts of filters, crews, and layers. If you find yourself feeling average with such content, you need to acknowledge the facts and the truth behind the scenes too. However, if you find yourself unbothered with such content, be proud of yourself.

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.” – Bruce Lee

2. Connect, Don’t Compete

The key rule to rest your anxieties for a while is to stop comparing yourself with people around you. Like celebrities, you do not know the behind stories of even the closest of your friends and family members. Each person has his/her own capacity and definition.

Think of it like this, if you are trying to fulfill the expectations of others, you’re not extraordinary, you’re just an average Joe. However, if you are setting your own path controlled by your own pace, you are doing something more daring than others. Even if you do fail, you should be proud of yourself for at least having the courage to take a different path.

3. Put Yourself Before Your Boss and Parents

The new hustle culture which depicts that a person should always be grinding in order to be successful is stupid. Even if you become successful with a house, some cars, and expensive trips, what’s the point if you do not enjoy the road too? The journey should be a memorable part, not the destination.

Working hard is a good quality which should be appreciated but there’s a fine line between working hard and burdening yourself. Find happiness in the way; take out time from your busy schedules for self-care. Treat yourself every once in a while with a break because you’ve earned it!

4. Too Much Information

Today, whatever you want to know is just a click away. The mysteries and even the dumbest of questions can be asked from the internet and the answers are just a tap away. But there is a thing called too much information. Knowing things is good but we don’t even realize when this information starts affecting our lives and mentality.

It doesn’t just affect us, it affects the people around us too. Be proud of yourself if you don’t lend an ear to every piece of information that comes your way! Prioritize information on the basis of relevance and relativity.

“Find out who you are and be that person. That’s what your soul was put on this earth to be. Find that truth, live that truth, and everything else will come.” – Ellen DeGeneres

5. Focus On Happiness And Not Success

It is 2020, and unfortunately, with so much awareness regarding mental health around us, people still think that every successful person is happy with his/her life. But in fact, it is not true at all. Many successful people are struggling with depression and anxiety which concludes that happiness and success are not related to each other.

If you are someone who finds happiness in the most minimal and average things in your life, then pat yourself on the back. Because you’re not an average Joe. The ability to control and be in charge of one’s happiness is the biggest achievement one can ever attain.

Lastly, if you’re someone who appreciates yourself and does not depend on anyone else’s validation, BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!

7 Underrated Qualities Of Successful People

Though many people attribute their success to “hard work,” it’s not that convincing. After all, a majority of people work hard enough at their jobs or endeavors without seeing any favorable returns. What helped to tips the scales in favor of the winners, the multi-millionaires, the masters?

To be successful, you have to see it as an achievable outcome that requires a certain number of steps to be followed. Hard work is only a small part of it. To propel oneself to the coveted levels of success, a person must be able to push himself, continually, to be a better version of himself.

The thing that sets successful people apart are these seven qualities that we often fail to see:

1. Appreciating the people behind the scenes

If you stop to count the number of people that influence your ability to accomplish great work, you’d be surprised. Regardless of how media depicts success, no major accomplishment is a one-person show. To become truly successful, a person must appreciate the support that he receives from other people.

Your team might be your employees, your colleagues, or even your family, who supports your ambitions and helps you reach your goals. It’s crucial to appreciate and let your team know their contributions are vital to your success. It’s always a good practice to see your team as a monumental element of your journey and give them the respect they deserve.

“Trade your expectations for appreciation and the world changes for you.” – Tony Robbins

2. Listening

The ability to listen attentively will open many doors when utilized correctly. If you want to achieve something sustainable, begin by listening to people. No matter who they are, superiors or subordinates, people respect an individual who can put everything aside and hear what they have to say. Not only does it show that you respect their opinions but also hugely determines how others view you as a leader and human being.

Thankfully, being a good listener is a quality that is not inborn but a matter of practice. Honing and enhancing this skill will make people instinctively gravitate towards you, as they can openly communicate with you with minimal interruptions and keen interest.

3. Grit

Some people call it drive while others refer to it as hunger. You might not be the smartest person in the room, but if you have grit, you’d be pretty much unstoppable.

Successful people have grit at their core. They carry the yearning, the gnawing desire to do more, be more. They are willing to do things that ordinary people hesitate to do. Somedays, you might have to miss your favorite movie or pull an all-nighter to get a job done. Recognize that these are only a few hurdles to your end goal.

However, it goes far beyond only working hard. Having a hunger for greatness implies that you should always be ready to learn. The sooner you realize that you know very less about anything, the more you’ll learn. Value people, communicate, build connections, read, scour the Internet. The options to learning are endless.

4. Courage

Everyone follows the rules because it works. It is a safe path that can guarantee a specific result. Yet it is also the same thing that makes you run a blind rat race until you realize that half of your life is gone and you didn’t spend it the way you wanted.

It takes a major cognitive shift to realize that the way things are and have been, can always be challenged. We need to look for solutions to our problems, not necessarily what everyone has been conditioned not to question. Act, think, and go in a radically different direction and field, and have confidence and courage in your ideas. Because to make an impact on the world, you need to stand up and protect your ideas.

5. Attitude

The right attitude is what makes or breaks your success. Here’s the thing: you can be a winner even when you fail. But only if you have the appropriate attitude to see it as such. Successful people know that failure is inevitable. Rather than succumbing to your negative thoughts, use your time and energy to find opportunities to put you ahead.

Attitude is the X factor that can turn a significant setback into a life lesson to be learned. When you’re able to see the positives in a negative situation, you’ll take failure at its face value and never shield you from taking active risks.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

6. Humility

Humility is such an underrated trait, often because people mistake it for weakness. To show humility is to appreciate the struggle and grind that others have to go through by helping as much as you can.

Striking that balance, succeeding without ever forgetting where you came from, or how many other people out there are still struggling, is how you gain the influence and respect that lasts. It’s a kind of superpower you’ll be able to always turn to in your pursuit of additional wealth and self-improvement.

Ultimately, the key to maintaining it is not allowing your perspective to become deluded by the success that may turn out to be temporary.

7. Consistency

An incredible revelation about all highly successful people is that they are all consistent. They do the same thing, the same pitch, with the same level of dedication repeatedly. Consistency builds discipline. Disciplined actions that are done consistently create success. Practice a consistent, disciplined approach to your life.

A consistent approach starts with being disciplined in your day-to-day activities. If a particular strategy doesn’t work and you keep changing it, you’ll think nothing works. Come up with a method and be consistent with it until you’re sure which parts don’t work. Start with today.

Turn Adversity Into Your Advantage

If you’d like to learn how to turn adversity into your advantage so you can come out on top in life, sign up for the free 90-Day Master Class hosted by the founder of Addicted2Success.com, Joel Brown.

It’s becoming more and more understood that adversity is the foundation of your success. Let’s take that one step further, adversity can be the platform to propel you to your success if you learn how to use it.

If you stay there, if you don’t learn from adversity, and use your struggle as a “stick to beat yourself up with,” you will always have a reason to not change, grow or simply do things differently. That’s the key, your ability to do things differently starts with your ability to think differently and here are the steps you can use to make the most of the adversity.

1. Recognize the lessons

This might make you think, “surely there aren’t any lessons in this.” When you’re struggling, the hardest thing ever is to think positive and you’ll tend to make life very difficult for yourself. By focusing on the lessons first, you acknowledge the fact that things aren’t going great now, but there may be some lessons here that you can learn from.

By doing this, you don’t try to completely flip your way of thinking, you simply meet yourself where you are in the moment, then change your perspective. Whether it gives you the opportunity to be patient or prove to yourself how strong and resilient you can be; looking for the lessons is the initial push to get the ball rolling.

2. Recognize the good

Feeling the momentum shift and helping yourself see more good in the situation you’re in encourages your mind to give you the “feeling good, acting good, loop.” This is how you begin to gradually make progress towards your goals and take your lessons you’ve learned to improve on your past.

You’ll start to let go of the struggle and realise that most of the pain was because of how you saw it. It likely won’t be dramatic, but it’s about shifting your way of thinking that causes you to improve because of the situation you’re facing. Rather than stay stuck because of it.

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

3. Be grateful

Positive feelings don’t typically last long; spending some time with them, long enough for them to sink in, will help cement in the progress you’ve made. It’s all too easy to brush over this but feeling grateful is something that would come easier to you after the previous steps. It’s easier to think positive about things if you’re already in a “good place” mentally.

The actions that you take when you’re tired, anxious, and/or stressed are very different to when you’re happy, excited or grateful. One you’ve shifted away feeling like a victim of your circumstances, you can start to see different paths you can take.

4. Change direction

“What direction do I go down?” is very common for you if you’re in this position. Very often it’s getting clear on this that stops most from ever really changing. It’s not the desire to change, it’s not the will to change, it’s being able to answer the direction question.

If you’re wanting ideas for what you can do, listening to how others do things is fine as long as you understand that what makes you happy will be slightly different. If you start to stray from your own path, you might find yourself feeling disconnected and possibly even “lost.” You will need to make some difficult decisions, possibly even make some people unhappy, to be able to go back to living your own life.

“Make your vision so clear that your fears become irrelevant.”

5. Take the simple steps and build on it

You’re likely feeling more ready than ever to attack this new direction full steam ahead; but, you start to worry, wondering if you’ll make this work. That’s completely natural because it’s unknown, uncertain and not knowing can cause you to be on the edge of action.

Wanting to know all the steps, being in the research and planning stages can overwhelm you and make it far more complicated than it could be. As you can probably tell, this is more of a mental game than simply taking action. You can be caught making things complicated, adding things in that you don’t need to confuse you, and make you feel like it’s an impossible task.

These are things you do to make sense of what’s going on, but they do slow you down. The way to think about this is doing “what you can, with what you have” given how clear you are right now. Very often, it’s taking action that helps you get clearer on the next steps, throwing bits of new information in as needed.

It’s about progress, moving forwards, and the biggest waves are started with the smallest ripples. But as long as you stay in the adversity or let it keep you stuck and struggling, that is where you’ll stay. You’ll make much faster progress than you think once you get moving with these steps.

The Pandemic Helped Me Battle Test My Habits. These Are the Ones That Stood Out

If you’d like to learn how to develop strong habits so you can improve all aspects of your life, sign up for the free 90-Day Master Class hosted by the founder of Addicted2Success.com, Joel Brown.

Our habits can destroy us. Habits are a big part of who you are. Do something enough times and that is who you become. Smoke frequently and you are a smoker. Drink often and you become known as an alcoholic. Pray daily and you are known as religious. Study a lot and they call you nerdy.

The opposite of destructive isn’t constructive. The opposite of destructive is creative. And you can choose to adopt habits which help you create and build. Habits that make your mental, physical and spiritual muscles stronger.

Here are the ones that are helping me stay strong and avoid binging on bowls of ice-cream during this crisis:

1. Seeking Clarity

I have this habit of journaling about my thoughts, questioning why I feel a certain way, and peeling back the layers to get to the real problem. This helps me distil my thoughts to transparency. And just like peeling an onion, it makes me cry.

Journaling also leaves me with a lighter conscious and a happier heart. It lets me tap into the oasis of compassion residing within me. In this crisis, it has allowed me to deal with my lack of personal space and my dwindling mental peace.

Journaling has enabled me to understand how I can create more happiness for myself and others, what my strengths and struggles are, and what I really need.

There is always a good reason and a real reason for doing something. Journaling helped me get to the real reason. I came out with a better understanding of myself, more compassion and more self love.

2. Investing In Myself

I love to learn. I read, watch, and listen to more things than I can remember but if I could get paid to learn, I would gleefully do it all my life! Learning, though believed to be a very good thing, gets in the way for me. It distracts me from what really matters. But this distraction has served me well in the last 6 weeks.

Since the time this quarantine started, I have finished reading ‘The How of Happiness’ by Sonja Lyubomirsky, ‘The Happiness Project’ by Gretchen Rubin, One Jack Reacher novel, and Things No One Can Teach Us by Humble The Poet. I have watched Liz Gilbert’s TED talk and finished over 7 previously ‘In progress’ courses on LinkedIn Learning.

This has helped me stay occupied, kill time outside of work, and kept my mind away from all the negativity and guilt which usually follows a netflix binge!

“You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one.” – Henry David Thoreau

3. Eating Healthy & Tracking My Food Intake

I come from a family of diabetics and also have family members who have died from cancer. Two of the deadliest diseases are in my genes so I need to be very careful about what I put in my body!

Working in an office that provides sumptuous food for free helped me build my mental muscle. Despite having access to some of the best food around daily, I choose healthy over delicious and in the last 45 days, it has made all the difference. Staying home, it is hard to resist the munchies but my practice for the last year and a half made resisting the nearest pack of chips a walk in the park.

4. Meditation (AKA Writing)

Writing is my way to meditate. Like meditation, writing helps me reduce stress by taking my mind away from all the panic. It helps me control my anxiety because it slows me down and makes me think. In reducing my stress and controlling my anxiety, it makes me emotionally healthier and stronger.

At a time when I find it hard to focus for the majority of my day, writing lengthens my attention span, keeps me in the zone, and helps me stay focused!

Most importantly, it quiets all the buzz in my brain and helps me get a good night’s sleep! I know this one because I track my sleep and for the last few weeks, the days I have slept the best, are the days where I have written — until I couldn’t write anymore.

“If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write.” – Martin Luther

5. Working Out

The house I live in is small. Put four people in it and it becomes tiny! Plus by working from home, all I do is sit and work. Because of this, workouts became non-negotiable.

I have now been working out consistently for over 3 years. Just like brushing or showering, it now comes natural to me, and I don’t have to spend energy thinking about it.

And boy has that kept my waistline in check! If I am sleepy, stressed, or feeling lazy, I go work out. Workouts have helped me stay energized and at the same time tire me out enough to get a good quality sleep at night.

Which of your habits are helping you during this time? Share them with us in the comments!

10 Life Changing Quotes That Helped Me Create A Meaningful Life

Meaning isn’t something you stumble upon. It’s something you consciously build into your life. Its foundation rests on your experiences, beliefs, and core values. The people you love, the things you cherish, and what you’re willing to sacrifice make up who you are.

Each of us needs to reconstitute meaning in our lives. We need to believe in something. Fight for something. We’re all told life’s short and to make the most of it, yet few do anything about it. Are you living a purposeful life or are you going through the motions?

All the ingredients of a meaningful life are in front of you. Only you can put them into the unique pattern that will define that meaning.

Carefully read these quotes as they’ll guide you on your journey:

1. “How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?” ―  Epictetus

So many people get caught in the trap of setting New Year’s resolutions. I say trap because it’s not like they came up with their resolutions on January 1st. They’ve known for a while, and they’ve been putting it off. They said I’ll do it next year. A better resolution is to omit those thoughts and the luxury of waiting and demand the best of yourself today.

2. “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night, and in between does what he wants to do.”  ―  Bob Dylan

Real misery is feeling like something was forced upon us and we’re not in control. True success is about choosing our problems. To create meaning and live life on our terms. The most gratifying form of freedom isn’t a life free of responsibilities, but a life where we’re free to choose our responsibilities.

3. “It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people but care more about their opinion than our own.” ―  Marcus Aurelius

The expectations of others are often crushing. One snide comment or dismissal can leave you feeling down or even defeated. Why though? What makes their opinion about us better than our own? Especially considering they don’t know our full story. They don’t know what we’ve been through or what we’re capable of accomplishing.

Remember, you’re not in this world to live up to anyone’s expectations just like they’re not in this world to live up to yours. The quicker we all figure that out, the sooner we can stop holding back and focus instead on doing what makes us truly happy.

4. “Don’t hate the game. Love the game, cause you’re in it, mate. Own the game.” ― Guy Ritchie

People take life too seriously. Treating life like a game makes it fun. The game of life has varying levels of difficulty, but if you take responsibility for everything you do and act as the master of your kingdom, then you’ll, in effect, own your life. Don’t let others choose your identity, tempt you with worldly pleasures, or tell you that you’re not enough. Bet on yourself every time and play the game like a champion.

5. “When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, what do you do? Memento mori — “remember that you have to die.” All of this will go to nothing.” ―  Ryan Holiday

When faced with a tough situation, ask yourself, will this matter in the long run? Will I think about it a year from now? I bet the answer is no more often than not. If that’s the case, then there’s no reason to get worked up about it now. This, too, shall pass.

6. “If you are not falling down occasionally, you are just coasting.” ―  Kevin Kelly

Anything worth doing comes with some form of struggle. Without risk, there’s no reward. Real growth comes from getting out of your comfort zone and doing things that scare you. Hard things. Things that may hurt you or make you feel uncomfortable.

Take this article as an example, I’ve been a big fan of Addicted2Success for years, and despite my previous writing success, I still found myself afraid of pitching this article. I feared I might not measure up to their quality standards. That I might get rejected or ignored. I can’t let fear dictate my actions, though. I can’t allow myself to coast. I have to move forward and accept that there’s a possibility you’ll never read this because it wasn’t good enough.

7. “The disease of our times is that we live on the surface. We’re like the Platte River, a mile wide and an inch deep.” ― Steven Pressfield

Everyone is looking for the shortcuts and cheat codes to a better life. We all want to be the noun without doing the verb. We all do the surface stuff instead of putting in the kind of work that produces something of real value. Real satisfaction and meaning come from diving deep into your craft. Opt for a few close friends rather than a few thousand acquaintances. Spend more time creating than consuming while you’re at it.

8. “Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.” ―  Seth Godin

Too many people fantasize about a better life. They plan vacations so they can escape reality. They browse social media to avoid the life they’ve created. They’re trapped in their heads, believing they’re helpless to create the change necessary to live a fulfilling life. A better solution is to design the life you’ve always dreamed of and lay a single brick each day until you’ve built it.

9. “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” ― Albert Camus.

Happiness is not something you find. It’s something you do. Happiness, much like misery, is a choice. Do you want to know why people are grumpy, negative, and have a bad attitude? Because it’s easier.

It’s easier to be sad then it is to be happy, and it’s easier to keep searching than it is to decide today that you’re going to see things differently. It’s harder to give people the benefit of the doubt or smile when you’re not feeling your best. Like a habit, though, it gets easier with time.

10. “Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials.” ― Lin Yutang

We say yes too much, and as a result, we’re all overcommitted and overworked. Feeling spread thin is a sure-fire way to feel unfulfilled. On the other hand, cutting your level of commitments in half can leave you feeling rejuvenated and gratified. Decide to let go of what ails you.

Chances are you’ve made many commitments to others and yourself. You made promises you never fulfilled. It’s time to realize you can’t do it all. You can’t make everyone happy. Take a step back and focus on creating meaning through the art of subtraction. Say yes to what you truly want by saying no more often.

The Quickest Hack to Breaking Out of a Slump

Hitting brick walls or waking up to the realities of being in a slump aren’t new to the era of Covid and the year 2020. Yet, personally, the walls seem higher and the slump deeper. I don’t know about you but I slammed into one of those days where it was a time of reckoning. I couldn’t shake off the fog in my brain, outrun the antsy feeling in my body, or mindfully practice my way out. What was a girl to do?

I have big dreams. I have tangible things I want to achieve. I’ve known hurdles before, as have you. What do you do when the hurdles seem taller? You get to leap higher

Here’s the quickest hack to break you out of that slump right how

Take out a pen and paper and write your bio for 3 months from now. That’s right! Maybe 2020 has kicked you all around but it’s time to turn the tables. Perhaps, the bio you write isn’t 3 months but for 5 months. 2021 is coming! What life has taught me is that regardless of where we are here and now, another day is going to come. I will be prepared for it!

On that day when I kept smashing into brick walls, hitting dead ends, and being lost in the foggiest brain, I sat down and wrote my bio for 3 months from now. I then extended it to the end of the year.

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” – Andy Warhol

What I did next

I then broke that bio down sentence by sentence. Also, I set myself daily, hourly, weekly, and monthly goals. I positioned myself down the track, set my focus on the blasted high hurdle, and began pumping my arms as my legs carried me forward. The truth is I don’t know what 3 or 5 months from now will bring but what I do know is that every day I will be in training.

The above bio and its breakdown are my workout plan.
