8 Business Challenges and Solutions for the New Age Entrepreneur

Being an entrepreneur isn’t just about hiring a team or giving orders to them. Every business comes with its unique challenges and addressing them appropriately is what contributes to the learning curve of any entrepreneur. A very big challenge for most entrepreneurs is to find out what these painful problems are and then to solve them using the best resources available.

Being the founder of your business goes a long way if you identify and solve your employees, customers, partners and companies problems. A successful entrepreneur solves problems in a unique way and that is what separates him from the rest.

Below are 8 challenges you can come across during your entrepreneurship journey with solutions that can help you overcome these problems tactfully:

1. Self-Doubt

The Challenge: Self-Doubt personates itself in other forms and negatively impacts business growth. Below are some questions that likely pop up in your mind as a result of self-doubt:

  • What if the idea fails?
  • Is it the right decision to leave the comfort of the monthly paycheck?
  • What if I don’t get the right team?

The Solution: You will feel like giving up initially but look towards your goal list and keep moving on. Know that working on daily tasks will contribute towards your lifetime goals and every day you’ll be one more step closer to them.

2. Time Management

The Challenge: The biggest challenge that an entrepreneur faces is time management. While working on a new venture, there are a number of things that need to be completed in a limited time period. Managing the time properly is an invaluable skill and can be rewarding in the long haul.

The Solution: Be smart when allocating your time to different tasks. It’s essential for you to know what is worth your time and what isn’t. Make goal lists that can further be deconstructed into monthly and weekly goals. If there are tasks that don’t require your attention, make sure you either delegate or eliminate them.

“This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

3. Gathering Capital

The Challenge: If you’re a freshly minted entrepreneur, lenders will hesitate in providing you the required funds as you may lack collateral to secure the loan and also you don’t have an established business. Without a reasonable probability of return, no one will take a risk by investing in your idea.

The Solution: There are government operated banks that are specifically designed for entrepreneurs. You can pitch your business idea and if feasible, they will provide you the required capital. Some NGOs also help new entrepreneurs in guiding them to reliable sources of capital generation.

4. Hiring Staff for the First Time

The Challenge: Hiring and keeping good employees is one of the most difficult tasks of an entrepreneur. If the business is small, each person becomes more critical. Remember, as you have just started the business, your company is in its most volatile position.

The Solution: When interviewing potential candidates, make sure to ask them questions related to their experience, long-term goals and expectations. Make candidates feel that your company seeks a partner to grow business with rather than a minion who takes orders from superiors.

For any candidates that you select, make sure you seek genuine references that can vouch for their work ethic and potential. Hire people that fit your criteria and be sure to clear everything before appointing an employee so as to maintain a healthy working relationship in the future.

5. Choosing What to Sell

The Challenge: Choosing what product to sell is the most difficult decision you will need to make while starting a business. Of course, the choices are limitless, but finalizing something is complex as your business success is totally depended on it.

The Solution: Market research can help you find the right product to invest in. Once you’ve shortlisted a few products, it’s good to analyze profit margins, strengths, weaknesses and threats that come along with each product. This will not only save your time and effort but will save your business at some point.

6. Choosing An Appropriate Marketing Strategy

The Challenge: As a new entrepreneur, you probably don’t know the best way/medium/channel to reach the target audience. It won’t matter how beneficial your product is, if your customers aren’t aware of it.

The Solution: If you want to maximize your ROI, then be sure to invest in target marketing as that will definitely lead you in the right direction. If you haven’t hired marketers to work with you then it’s best to outsource a team that can strategize a great marketing plan for you. Be precise with your budget and marketing goals so that they can craft a plan that works like magic for you.

“Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.” – Bill Gates

7. Cash Flow

The Challenge: Sufficient cash flow is essential to keep the business suspended as you have to bear all your business related expenses such as employee’s salary, infrastructural cost, and so forth. Temporary cash infusions don’t solve the problem, you need to make changes in the supply chain to get some positive gains.

The Solution: Planning for a budget in advance can help you work around cash flow problems. In addition to this, you can also request your clients to clear the invoice payments quickly. You can also convince your vendors to send you the bill after 40-45 days, which gives you enough time to receive your payments.

8. Business Growth

The Challenge: From financial management to keeping up with the market, growing businesses face multiple challenges. What worked a year ago might not be the right approach now.

The Solution: It’s very important for an entrepreneur to know the strengths of his teams and employees. This can help you distribute tasks to employees who can handle them most effectively while giving you a window to get out of production and management issues. This way you can focus on growing your business.

Conclusion

There are volumes written on how entrepreneurs can overcome business challenges, use them to their advantage, and ensure that you’re putting your customers first. On the other hand, it’s okay to feel that you’re going off track because only then can you drive yourself to overcome obstacles and do better.

How A Sticky Note On My Bathroom Mirror Massively Impacted My Life

Why Focus Is the Key to Faster Success if You Have Too Many Goals

Multitasking, splitting your focus, and wearing five hats at once. If this sounds familiar to you, chances are you’re an entrepreneur, freelancer, or business owner.. You have big goals, and lots of them. Your lofty aspirations are good, but there are so many things to focus on.

To get work done on schedule, we often find ourselves chasing multiple goals at once – and even thinking about more things to do at the same time. The workload isn’t the problem, necessarily. The problem is the idea we have to do it all at once to be successful.

Stop and breathe. Focus on one thing at a time until you complete it. After that, move onto the next thing. I know – it’s easier said than done. Let’s delve into the psychology behind the mindset of multitasking so we don’t miss out, and discuss how to effectively focus.

JOMO: The Joy of Missing Out – Why it Matters for Faster Success

At first glance, you may think our acronym is off by a letter. We often hear about the fear of missing out, or FOMO, when we start talking about getting things done. It’s the feeling that says while you’re doing this, you’re missing out on that. And for all the good technology has done, studies have shown that social media and our modern digital landscape exacerbates this fear in many.

FOMO isn’t just a modern trend because even 5 years ago, over half of social networkers suffered from FOMO. But there’s actually a good side to missing out on things. When we think of success, we think of all the accomplishments we’d like to rack up. But this can often leave us in a cluttered state of mind, where our body is in one place and our mind in another.

Missing out on things can actually be good. It helps us focus on the task at hand – which is the key to faster success. Multitasking has its place, but getting big goals accomplished is easier when you focus on one at a time.

If you’re the type of person who is pursuing a personal and/or professional goal, don’t worry about missing out on other things when you’re focusing your time on a single objective. Clearing the worry from your mind can help jumpstart your productivity and put you on track to success.

“FOMO (fear of missing out) is the enemy of valuing your own time.” – Andrew Yang

Even with the stats and science backing the JOMO approach, distractions come in many forms. Some people are almost unnaturally compelled to scroll through their Facebook or Twitter feed, even on tight deadlines, because who knows what great post (or funny meme) they may miss out on?

The fewer distractions, the better – even in the workplace. One study showed reducing workplace distractions resulted in a large percentage of employees being more productive (75%), enjoying more motivation (45%), and being overall happier on the job (49%).

No matter where you’re spending your time or what project you’re working on, try these three tips for staying focused on your goals:

1. Tame Those Electronic Distractions

Are your tech toys taking your attention? You may need to take an extreme approach. Sometimes this can mean turning your phone off, or even putting it in another room. It works in classrooms and offices, so try it out wherever you’re working.

What about the gateway to distractions that is that second tab, or that second monitor on your computer? Try having separate computers – one optimized with programs and logins for work, and one without. It helps you subtly separate work from play, and focus from fun – though that’s not to say getting work done can’t be fun.

“I attribute much of my success in New York to my ability to understand and avoid unnecessary distractions.” – Derek Jeter

2. Change Your Work Location

Sometimes being at home, or even at the office, just isn’t conducive to staying focused. If your mind is on too many things at once, try a change of scenery if your situation allows for it.

Pack up your laptop (the work one) and head down to the local coffee shop. Knowing you came to a different location specifically to get work done is a great way to motivate yourself, and get yourself in the mood to tackle the task at hand.

3. Remember to Relax Your Mind

Who says meditation can’t be handy for the busy worker with big goals to accomplish?

If you’re trying to focus, taking a few minutes to relax is a great way to prepare yourself. Breathe deep, be mindful, and center your focus on the project you’re currently working on. Don’t forget to schedule some relaxation time, because a good work/life balance matters.

The (Not So) Secret Formula to Success

We all know that success is a product of hard work in the vast majority of cases. It’s no different when you have many things to accomplish and focus on. Nonetheless, the key to accomplishing all of your goals faster is to put your focus on one objective at a time. Put your focus at the front of the line and give it your all.

How do you make sure you don’t overcommit and spread yourself too thin when it comes to accomplishing your goals? Let us know your thoughts below!

Follow These 5 Steps to Radically Transform Your Negative Mindset

Struggling with a negative mindset is a very real and common problem, one that often hinders a person’s ability to grow and achieve the things in life they want. Oftentimes, it is someone’s mindset that determines their level of happiness.

What is a mindset? A mindset is the beliefs about yourself and your most basic qualities. Think about your intelligence, talents, and personality, these are the basic traits of oneselves. A mindset determines how we deal with challenges and obstacles. Which frame the running accounts in our heads and guide us on our life journey.

Experts agree there are two basic types – a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. In a fixed mindset, people believe that their natural traits – intelligence, abilities, and talents are fixed from birth. In a growth mindset, people believe that they can develop their inner traits through learning and determination.

“The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even when it’s not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives.” – Carol Dweck

Research has shown that 80% of the nearly 60,000 thoughts we have on a daily basis are negative. It also estimated that 98% of those thoughts are a repetition of yesterday. On a subconscious level, people are expecting the worst – almost all of the time. Constant repeated thought patterns turn into beliefs.

These beliefs then combine into a fixed and negative mindset. One where our inner voice is a harsh critic, a worrisome voice, and an anxious being. Luckily – we can employ parts of our brains to change other parts. We can move a fixed mindset into a growth mindset. How?

Here are five steps to radically transform your negative mindset:

Step One – Untangling your thoughts

A very powerful, proven technique for stepping back from the constant flow of thoughts is to look at them with the impartial rational mind. Generally, it is easy to spot these negative thought patterns because they are accompanied by an emotion. Recognizing the emotion tied to anxiety then gives you the power to label it for what it is. The same can be done for many other feeling patterns. These thoughts and feelings start to lose their intensity when repeatedly scrutinized by the rational mind.

Step Two – Examine your beliefs

Using the perspective gained in step one, you can begin to check your belief systems. The fixed mindset creates an internal monologue that is focused on judging: “This means I’m a loser,”  “I am a better person than they are,” “I am not a good wife and mother,” “My partner is selfish.” Etc.

The key is adopting a growth mindset. A growth mindset is one where it is possible to learn and begin to cultivate positive beliefs. For example – when you find yourself being hard on yourself, consciously change it to something more positive – like when you have failed at something and the negative inner voice is yelling “see – you suck. I knew you’d fail” (a fixed view). Changing this tone to one that is more forgiving to yourself – “its ok – you’re only human. Learn from this mistake and you’ll do much better next time” (a growth view).

Step Three – Balance Your Risk-Averse fears

Being overly risk-averse in life leads to focusing on catastrophic possibilities. In a fixed mindset,  these fears are set in place and the belief is that they cannot be changed. Which results in a human being that is unable to experience life because of fearfulness. Fears can be overcome by setting goals and making detailed plans to accomplish them. Write the specific goals and plans down on paper. If you have your plan written down on paper than you know what you have to do and will not negotiate with your fears when making decisions.

Step Four – Adopt the Habit of Daily Mindfulness Meditation Practice

The practice of mindfulness meditation has been around for 2500+ years. It is what Buddha practiced and is at the heart of many religions. Meditation can be used to see the bigger picture and not focus on the implications of now. More so, mindfulness meditation can delve into each piece of it – old fears, habitual self-loathing, shying away from challenges and eliminate these pains.

What is meditation anyway? At the core, it is the mind’s ability to look inward. As discussed above – it can look at the thoughts, emotions, beliefs, fears, hopes, attraction, and avoidance of oneself. It can gradually quiet the negative internal monologue. Research shows that meditation increases a sense of happiness and contentment. Mediation makes space for growth by eliminating underlying stress, depression, and anxiety.

“Your mind is a powerful thing. When you filter it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change.” – Buddha

Step Five – Shape Your Mindset With Visions and Goals

Every person has hopes and dreams that they want to accomplish. However, often we feel powerless to do so. By setting specific goals and detailed plans to accomplish them, you can start to break free from negativity. Break down the goals into smaller achievable steps. Allow every achievement along your plan to bring a sense of accomplishment and self worth.

The best way to begin to put it all together is to have faith that you can break out of a negative mindset. Gain an understanding of how your current mindset is fixed and negative through mindful meditation. From this insight and understanding, you can then set achievable goals of positive growth and use the same mindfulness to measure your success.

Adopt these five steps and through determination and consistent practice, you will find your mindset transformed in ways you never thought possible. Remember, there is always space for failure. Without failure there is no growth.

Do not fall back into the trap of negative thinking if you do not achieve what you want in one day. Humans are imperfect beings, and it is not possible to reprogram your brain within a day or a week. Some negativity will linger for awhile and that is totally normal. What matters most is your continued effort to reprogram. Over time your mind will change, just give it time.

Tai Lopez’s 6 Tips for Managing Stress and Anxiety as an Entrepreneur

Life as an entrepreneur will put every aspect of your personality under the microscope. Your strengths will be magnified, however, so will your weaknesses. Knowing who you are and what to do about that will make a world of difference in the way you conduct yourself as an entrepreneur.

I have personally wrestled with stress and anxiety throughout my life, but becoming a business owner really pushed me to understand myself on a much deeper level. If you have a tendency to worry about things in general, you know that it can show often in your work. The great news is, there is a lot you can do about it.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Tai Lopez, a very successful entrepreneur, investor, and mentor, who started his first business at age 19. He believes the reason so few people go after their dream of owning a business is anxiety and fear. I would have to agree!

Below, he shared six of his best tips with me for managing stress and anxiety as an entrepreneur:

1. To manage your fear, you have to make sure you’re afraid of the right thing

“Only fear living a substandard life. Fear is natural. One of my mentors, the evolutionary psychologist David Buss, told me ‘Tai, fear is functional,’ meaning it’s evolved because it helps us when used correctly. So, I would never advise an entrepreneur to think they can remove all fear. It’s hard-wired into our DNA. What you can do is redirect your fear to those proper focal points. Your main fear in life should be living a substandard life. Obsess about that. Don’t be afraid of a few bumps in the road if you quit your job and start a business. Those bumps are inevitable and in fact, those bumps will come at your job or as an entrepreneur. They’re part of the human condition. When I become anxious, I override my conventional anxiety with my entrepreneurial anxiety. Entrepreneurial anxiety is only focused on how much worse it would be if I wasn’t an entrepreneur.”

2. Take the Hexaco quiz online

“Let me explain. Scientists, who are called specialists in psychometrics, have developed quizzes that are pretty accurate. Probably the most accurate right now is something called Hexaco, which is a 25 sub-facet study of your personality type. Pay very close attention to your score around the second facet, E, which stands for emotionality. Emotionality is comprised of four sub-facets: fearfulness, anxiety, dependence, and sentimentality. Focus on anxiety. Now, they differentiate anxiety from fearfulness. Fearfulness is fear of physical pain, like bungee jumping. If you score high on fearfulness, don’t worry, not much needs to be adjusted, necessarily. But if your anxiety is too high, you know you are kind of in the danger zone. It’s something you’ll have to deal with as an entrepreneur, but it can be overcome. Just like you go to the doctor and get a temperature reading, it’s important to know where you’re starting from.”

3. Control your social circle and fill it up with low anxiety people

“It’s absolutely critical that you spend less and less time with high anxiety people, even if they’re your family or close friends. There’s a great book called “The H Factor of Personality” by Kimbeon Lee, that I recommend every person read. It’s by one of the scientists who developed the Hexaco score. One of the chapters is very clear, what do you do when you’re with somebody that doesn’t get a great score? Limit your time with them. Just like success rubs off on you, anxiety rubs off on you. The higher you score on anxiety, the more restrictive you need to be on your social circle. Whatever you do, don’t pick a business partner or key employee who has high anxiety. Don’t be afraid to ask them to take the Hexaco quiz as well.”

4. Spend time out of urban cities

“We are products of our environment. We now know this with modern science. If you live in a crowded area that has a lot of traffic and horns beeping all the time, you need a vacation at least once a month. Jonathan Height mentions in his book, The Happiness Hypothesis, that he can measure increased cortisol even if you don’t notice it. A vacation can be as simple as a one or two-day getaway from where you live. Take a car and get to a place where you can let nature soothe your mind.”

5. Make sure you’re getting a ton of sleep, ideally 8.5 hours

“I know that some people will argue with me on this, citing people like Arnold Schwarzenegger who told me he never needed more than 4.5 hours a day. But you and I are not Arnold Schwarzenegger. Unless you consider yourself some Marvel superhero, stick to the advice of the average doctor, which is getting 8-8.5 hours of sleep a night. It rejuvenates you and lowers your blood pressure. We have better control over our emotions earlier in the day when we are well rested. Forget all of the people who tell you to work 18 hours a day because you can sleep when you’re dead. You’ll get there really fast as an entrepreneur if you follow that faulty philosophy.”

6. Fight anxiety with mental weightlifting

“When I was a teenager, I learned how to use sheer willpower to push thoughts out of my head. I would push them out and repeat another thought 1000 times. Or, I would go to a happy place of a vacation I had gone on as a young child. There’s nothing wrong with occasionally using brute force. Yes, by the way, I do think you should use a meditation app and spend 10 or 20 minutes a day meditating. A friend of mine, Dolph Lundgren, the actor in Rocky, Creed II, and Aquaman, once told me that meditating one hour a day has changed his life. But, just like yoga and stretching is good for your body, so is bodybuilding, where you use sheer force to push. It strengthens your muscle. In the same way, do that with your anxiety. However, if you have a massive, clinically diagnosed anxiety disorder, you may be limited and need to follow what your doctor says. But, the vast majority of people, in my experience, can get a long way with meditation and mental weightlifting. It will be very hard at the beginning but it gets easier, just like bench pressing or running a marathon.”

As you can see, Tai has put a lot of thought over the years into the concept of stress and anxiety and how it can affect us as entrepreneurs. We all could take his advice on quite a few of these. Getting plenty of sleep is very important, especially as an entreprenur.

I highly suggest taking the Hexico test; I immediately took it after interview with Tai and it was really helpful in understanding more about my personality. I hope the tips Tai shared with me can help you as well. If you struggle with stress and anxiety, this is your push to work through it and implement positive change.

The Different Ways of Measuring the Success of Your Start-Up

You’ve probably heard people use the term “unicorn” in a business context. This means a privately held start-up whose value has grown to at least one billion American dollars. Think Airbnb, Uber, and so forth. There is no doubt that some start-ups have been major financial successes. And many smaller-scale start-ups are doing great as well, working hard and turning a steady profit. But that begs the question of whether finances are the only way to measure the success of a start-up. As it turns out, they might not be. At least, not always and not on their own.

How to Evaluate Success

As anyone who’s been involved with start-ups knows, you need a fair amount of flexibility to do well in this environment. Take the division of labour for example – rather than strict roles, you’ll often see everyone do a bit of everything. The same principle extends to measuring success. It can be vague and mean different things to different people, and it can change over time.

But amongst all that vagueness, one thing has become clear. Predicting the success of a start-up is very difficult for external observers. As a matter of fact, it’s often impossible. Therefore, in order to evaluate how successful a start-up has truly been, we need to know the goals of its founder(s).

“Success means we go to sleep at night knowing that our talents and abilities were used in a way that served others.” – Marianne Williamson

The Numbers

When people think about business, it’s common to boil matters down to the finances. And it certainly is possible to use numbers to measure and predict the performance of a start-up business. Net worth, gross margin, customer acquisition cost – these can all be indicators of success. But, a start-up can post impressive numbers for a while, perhaps even attract large investors, and still shut down in the end. So does this make it a failure?

The answer to this depends. If the founders wanted to start a lasting business, then yes, they failed to meet their goal. However, that isn’t always the case. If they were looking for a short-term solution and came out with more money than they had coming in, a closed-down start-up needn’t be unsuccessful. It can actually be the opposite of that.

So, looking at the figures isn’t enough, and there are different perspectives to consider. When they start planning their business venture, start-up founders may not have any particular numbers in mind when it comes to profit. Instead, they can judge their success according to some of the following criteria.

1. Happy Customers and Solving Problems

The story of a start-up often begins with a problem. The desire to help people overcome a specific issue can be the spark which ignites the creation of an entire business. And in the end, that may be all that matters to the founders.

This is closely connected to the happiness of the customers. If the resulting product or service has made people happy by helping them solve a problem, that is all that may be required for a start-up to be a success. Now, no business wants unsatisfied customers. But in cases like this, happy customers aren’t the way toward the ultimate goal – they are that goal.

In other words, some start-up founders don’t just use financial reports to measure how much they’ve achieved. To them, the one metric which stands above all others is the quantity of positive feedback they’ve received. The main area of focus is customers who use the start-up’s products or services to solve a problem they were having.

2. Impact

Every start-up founder likes doing well in terms of revenue. But for some of these entrepreneurs, the profit is merely a side effect of what they actually set out to do – impact the world in a positive manner. You can see an example of this line of thought with Elon Musk. He said that back in college, he had wanted to be a part of things that could end up changing the world. The continuation of this philosophy is evident in his electric cars (which aim to reduce pollution) and the SpaceX program (which strives to break down some of the barriers of space exploration).

In both cases, the furthering of mankind is the ultimate goal. Many other start-up founders feel the same, even if they have smaller goals in mind. To these people, there is no greater proof of success than if their company has had a positive impact on society or even a small segment of it. In their view, to make a difference is to succeed.

“The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.” – Tony Robbins

3. Freedom

For some, starting up their own business is less about getting rich and more about gaining the freedom to conduct their business the way they want to. In this case, financial success is just a means to an end. The endgame is to be your own boss.

The fact is, some people don’t do well when they’re constantly receiving orders. They are simply hardwired to be free thinkers and they require an environment that allows them to do things in their own way.

Being in a position where you hold all the cards can be exhilarating. The knowledge that your decisions are final is very empowering, and many strive for such freedom. If a start-up can allow such people to go from being a regular employee to being in charge of making all the decisions, then it has already achieved all the success that it needs to.

4. Time for Friends and Family

As many people know all too well, a job can easily turn into the focal point of your daily life. Instead of being a way to support your lifestyle, your work dominates your time. And when that happens, the time you have to dedicate to your loved ones becomes scarce. Combating this is precisely what some have in mind when they decide to take the leap and start their own business.

Now, running your own company is no mean feat and it will require a lot of effort. But the beginning is the most time-consuming part of the process. Later on, it can be possible to create a system which leaves you with a lot more time on your hands. You can spend this time with your significant other, your children, or your friends. A start-up which gives you this opportunity is perhaps the greatest success of all.

A start-up is an extension of its founders and so are that company’s goals. Some entrepreneurs are in it for the profit, but not all of them. In the end, there is no single way to measure the success of a start-up. It all comes down to the specific aims of those who established it. But if the founders can end their day on a happy note, then the venture is a success even if it doesn’t fit some standard definition of the term.

Why You Should Never Forget Difficult Times No Matter How Successful You Become

How’s everything in your life? Is your love life on track? Are your finances in check? How about your family? How are they doing? On a measure of one to ten, how happy are you with where you’re at in life?

Life can never be 100% fine. At some point, something is likely to be off track. However, sometimes things are too challenging to the extent that we have nothing to smile about. Such is what we call the tough moments – our lowest point. I believe that we should never forget the difficult times in our lives because they come with valuable lessons.

Below are 8 things difficult times teach you:

1. You are a strong person

Learning that you are a powerful individual is a blessing because it empowers your mind. They say that the purest gold has been through a very hot fire, and so is the strongest man or woman.

When you go through a dark phase in your life, and you manage to conquer it, you remain stronger than you were before the tragedy happened. Difficult times teach you that you will be fine no matter what happens. You will build up resilience to levels you never imagined you could. Eventually, you will have the strength and power to combat even seemingly impossible situations.

2. The people you lose remain a part of you

We all have a friend who we cannot imagine life without him or her. When they leave, you’re heart broken; it is hard to forget them. They live in the warmth of your broken heart, and it takes a long time to heal back up. It is more like breaking an ankle because it never quite heals completely. The most important part is that you learn to live past the hurt.

3. You are your best pal and your worst enemy

When life hits you hard, the first thing that most people usually do is self-loathe. You hate yourself for allowing the situation to get the better of you. You then hate yourself for allowing such mean friends into your life. The hatred goes on and on. Before you realize it, you are in a situation that is worse than it was previously, and you are in a deep hole of sadness.

Having been through a rough patch, you understand that you can be your worst enemy. Whenever a similar situation presents itself, you will avoid self-loathe because you know its effects best.

“We’re our own worst enemy. You doubt yourself more than anybody else ever will. If you can get past that, you can be successful.” – Michael Strahan

4. You need to change

Some tough situations come along because of our carelessness. Let’s say you are in debt; it may have happened because you lost a job or you were living beyond your means. If the latter applies to your life, it’s time you think about how you can change your behavior.

Rather than focusing on the external circumstances, think about how you may have been to blame and work on that. What aspect of your life can you change to improve the situation? Failing to accept the truths that life present to you will leave you entrenched in traps that you will never manage to escape.

5. You may lose control of life, but you can control yourself

Let’s say you were born in a dysfunctional family, is there much you can do about it? Not really, but you can work on having a functional one in your adult years. Surrendering to life makes you vulnerable and weak. You become influenced by what people think about you and peer influence.

On the flip side, harnessing the power inside you to control your life brings you to a healthy environment. Surround yourself with good influences and work on improving your skills regularly.

6. Regret hurts more than fear

When you give in to your fears, you may not even manage to look yourself in the mirror. Sadly, only a few people learn the lesson immediately. For others, it takes longer and ends up being very painful.

It is only when you risk losing that you can open up to the possibility of winning. Whether you desire to build a business or your current work environment is toxic, you must learn how to let go of what you think is familiar before achieving other things. If you stick there, years later you will regret why you never left.

7. You know what matters and what doesn’t

When you are in excellent financial standing, you find pleasure in eating out, drinking with friends, shopping, and other activities that you can afford. When you are broke, and you cannot afford those things, it occurs to you that they never mattered in the first place. It hits you that they are only temporary pleasures that you can do without.

During a difficult period, you learn how to find joy in the simple things in life. Over time, you get to appreciate what you have more.

8. Not everyone is for you

When you are at your lowest point, you have the chance to know who your true friends are and who aren’t real. No matter how cliché this might seem, it is one of the most valuable lessons that you will pick when you are at a low point in life.

Failure is absolutely necessary! If life was perfect from day one, trust me, it would be too dull to enjoy. Even if it feels like the challenging situation will never end. Reach out to your loved ones or find help if you can. The moment all the hurt ends, you will realize that it was worthwhile. Never forget those tough moments because they contribute to the fantastic person you are today!
