How to Handle Your Startup Company When You’re Running Out of Money

Setting up a startup company is a struggle. You need to find enough funding to ensure that the company takes off along with finding the right resources so it runs smoothly. There are a lot of great startup ideas that don’t translate into entrepreneurial success right away.

You might even reach a point where you no longer have enough finances to keep the business running. It could be because the idea was not well-embraced by many people. It is also possible that your investors are no longer willing to bridge you. Worse, you might suddenly have a competitor attracting all your target customers to their side.

If this happens, the first thing you need to do is stay calm, there is no point in panicking. Money is fluid in any business and this is an issue that can still be fixed. Once your business is running out of money, you still have a few weeks left to recover. Make the most of whatever time you have in your hands. When you are panicking, you might make the wrong decisions and this is going to hurt your business even more. Gather your thoughts, compose yourself and focus on what needs to be done.

Here are a few things you can do when your business starts running out of money:

1. Determine what went wrong

Before you can think about what needs to be done, you have to assess what happened first. Get to the root cause of why you are running out of money at this point in your startup business. You can only decide what would be best for the business if you have assessed all the details.

However, make sure that this process does not turn out to be a blame game. You don’t want to reach a point when feelings get hurt and you get stuck with that. This is not the time to blame, it is the time to make the right moves.

2. Write out your options

Since you are already having a hard time with your business, you can either raise money to pay for the loans and have enough cash on hand, or sell the business. There is no right or wrong direction. It depends on how you assess the situation. If you think you can still find a way to raise money and salvage the business, do it. On the other hand, if you can find interested investors and they have the capacity to turn things around, you better entrust the company to them.

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” – Abraham Lincoln

3. Start moving

You only have a small window between now and the day when you fully run out of money to keep the business running, therefore, you need to act quickly. If you want to look for investors, call people. Let them understand your offer. Tell them to make a decision as soon as possible so that you can also entertain other interested parties. If you cannot find investors, you might decide to lay off some employees. This is not the best way to move forward, but it is a cost-cutting measure after all.

4. Don’t act desperate

Yes, you don’t have enough money to run the business the way you would have wanted and you are also running out of time, but this does not mean that you should act desperately. You have to remain professional. When talking to potential investors, don’t show that you are in a panic mode. Instead, show them the benefits of buying your business or investing in it without lying about your current financial status.

You should also negotiate and make deals that are somewhat favorable to you. Don’t immediately close a deal because you feel like you won’t have any other option left if you let go of this one.

5. Keep working hard

Aside from raising money, continue looking for creative means to improve your business. If you have determined that you have low sales, you might want to improve your products. If the problem is that you are not reaching out to a lot of people, rethink your marketing strategies.

This time, you should involve more people on your team. Perhaps, the previous ideas failed because you did not consult a lot of people. You only relied on what you thought was right. It doesn’t work that way for startups. A lot of people have something to contribute to improve the business and you need to trust that they can get things done.

If your target customers were taken away from you by other unexpected competitors, don’t just leave the fight, you have to fight head on. Nonetheless, this does not mean you have to fight dirty. It means you need to find out what their weaknesses are and improve on them so you can have another selling point. Keep researching and understand what the market needs and what the trends are.

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” – Pele

6. Integrate other business ideas

Your business might not be doing well right now for several reasons. If you think that it is because you didn’t come up with a great idea, perhaps it is time to integrate other ideas. You can expand your business so you can reach out to more people. You can also start another business that is more profitable so that you can use the said profits to improve the other business. It is just a matter of how you make the most out of this new business idea to improve everything.

10 Key Tricks to Successfully Start a Blog in 2018

Blogging isn’t what it used to be. Years ago, people started blogs to tell personal accounts of their lives detailing travel adventures or other exciting feats. While these types of blogs still have a place on the internet, the purpose and audience reach of blogging has significantly grown. Today, everyone from self-starting entrepreneurs to large corporations can use blogging to tell their stories and promote awareness of their brand.

Whether it’s your first time blogging or you’re looking for new ways to improve your strategy, focus on these 10 key tricks to get you there:

1. Understand Your Brand Message

A great online presence starts with the key messaging built behind-the-scenes. This messaging is what people remember when they think about your brand. Whether you’re a freelancer building your personal brand or a huge company wanting to better relate to customers, what do you want your brand to say about you?

Before you write a single word, nail down your brand message. Write down a few sentences describing what you want your company to be known for. Then, filter to a few key adjectives describing your brand.

Once this is solidified, everything written thereafter should relate to this original message. This message can adapt in time, just like any business adapts to the changing needs of the customer. However, you want it to carry that same original theme.

2. Create a Blogging Schedule You’ll Stick To

When starting a blog, one of the most challenging parts is to put out content on a continual basis, but this is the most important part. One of the reasons that blogging is so powerful is because it helps you quickly climb higher in search engine results.

Due to the higher volume of content produced through blogging, Google notices your site building a larger online presence. All of your articles help grow this presence by publishing content with the same theme. Whether your blogging schedule is daily, weekly or monthly, make sure you’re consistently putting out content that strengthens your brand awareness online.

“Your brand is what other people say about you when you’re not in the room.” – Jeff Bezos

3. Tell Stories that Further Promote Your Brand Message

Marketing no longer tries to catch customers’ attention by interrupting them with ads that will get the most views. Instead, the focus is to tell a story that pulls the right potential customers in. This is a much more pleasant experience for all parties involved because the message gets in front of the right people.

There is no need to cast a wide net by reaching out to a countless individuals. Contrarily, the objective is to promote stories that organically draw the right people in and speak to their specific needs.

4. Use Keywords that Align with Your Brand

The best way to create an online presence is to tell the same story across all content. Every time you write a blog post, the title should accurately depict the article’s content. What words or phrases might your target audience use to search for you?

Starting with who your potential customer or reader is, you can pinpoint why they would be looking for you. Once you’ve nailed down a list of keywords, use these throughout your blog post titles and content. Continually producing articles that highlight these keywords will help you to be recognized for the right thing.

5. Utilize Long-Tail Keywords to Attract a Niche Audience

When implementing a keyword strategy, you can target words with the highest volume or drill down to longer phrases that pull the right audience in. It’s always best to begin your keyword optimization targeting long-tail phrases.

You can still go after more general keywords as long that are a good fit, but this shouldn’t be your main priority. You’ll be able to rank higher quicker for more specific phrases since you’ll have less competition and will be a relevant search result.

6. Speak the Same Language as Your Ideal Reader

Your English professor might have asked you to write more eloquently, but you have to use a different mindset to attract your ideal reader. Think of the way you search on Google, you don’t waste time writing scientific sentences. You probably write in a more casual tone similar to how you might talk with your friends.

Whether or not your ideal reader speaks in a more formal or casual manner, make sure you write articles speaking to them. What would a conversation with your reader sound like? Mimicking this tone will help you to attract the right audience.

7. Create Blog Url’s that Align with Your Title

In line with your successful keyword strategy, make sure your blog url’s are utilizing long-tail keywords. Your article titles should contain a long-tail keyword phrase that bring in the right readers. Use this title as the end of your url, separating each word with a dash.

For instance, in this article’s title the long-tail keyword phrase is, “Successfully Start a Blog.” This way, when someone searches for how to start a blog, this article will have a higher chance of showing up in the results. The keyword phrases that readers use to search for your article do not need to be exact matches to your article’s title. If they are slightly reworded, they still have the same meaning.

8. Promote on the Right Social Media Platforms

Once you’ve done all the hard work of creating your content, you now have to get the right people to view it. With the countless number of social media users out there today, you can quickly get the word out. However, take a minute to think about which platforms would be the best fit to get to your target reader.

Which social media platform would you find your target reader spending the most time on? If your content best aligns with LinkedIn, then use that as a means to get to your reader. Getting exposure on the right social media platforms will help to find your target audience where they already are.

“Your premium brand had better be delivering something special, or it’s not going to get the business.” – Warren Buffett

9. Use Social Sharing Buttons

Word-of-mouth is one of the oldest forms of marketing. It exists today greater than ever through online conversations others are having about your company or brand. More than ever, we have the ability to learn about new companies by what our friends are sharing.

Once your reader finds your content, make it easy for them to share. By adding in social media sharing buttons around your article, you give the reader an opportunity to amplify your message. If this message aligns with their passions and interests, then you want to give them the ability to share amongst their friends. What better way to get the message out?

10. Extend the Reach of Previous Blog Articles

Once you’ve successfully published and shared an article amongst your network, don’t let it die just yet. If an older article lines up with your current brand message, extend its shelf life by reintroducing it to your network. Of course, you’ll want to reword your social media post to liven things up. But, you never know how relevant your article might be still today.

Every single blog article you write helps to further your online presence. Instead of just consuming content online, create something that matters for years to come.

What message will you leave behind? Use these 10 key strategies to help you build something great.

5 Simple Steps to Creating a Breakthrough in Your Life

Did you wake up today hoping that today will be the day for your breakthrough? Everyday we see breakthroughs happen. The latest technology crashing into the market, a new overnight success story starring in a Hollywood movie, a business IPO that makes the founders billions in just a few hours.

Often we see these breakthroughs and wonder to ourselves – “when will it be my turn?” We deserve success as much as those people. We are just as smart, or talented, or determined as those people making the headlines, so surely it is just a matter of time.

The problem with this view of the breakthrough process is that we do not see what happened BEFORE the breakthrough. Before the tech launch, there were hundreds of hours of coding, testing and fixing before version 1 was even launched. The breakout technology is already at version 13.1.

Before the Hollywood blockbuster, there were hundreds of auditions, rejections and hours spent in front of the mirror mastering facial expressions. The 90-minute blockbuster is only the tip of that artist’s work.

Before the IPO, there was hustling for sales, funding rejections and moments where the business almost failed. The stock price doesn’t show the blood and sweat that the entire company invested to get to that point.

The reality is there are 5 steps that lead to every breakthrough. If you are waiting for your breakthrough to happen, you need to see where you are on this path.

1. Decide To Be In The Game

First off, you need to make a commitment to get started. Observing everything from the outside and commenting on how you would do it is never going to lead to your breakthrough. You need to have skin in the game. You can’t influence anything if you are only sitting on the bench. This first step is scary as you have to overcome a whole load of fear.

Also, there is no risk associated with being a critic. Theodore Roosevelt said in ‘Man In The Arena’ that critics are “those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat”. Instead, you know that to breakthrough, you have to leave that old mindset behind, get in the game and open yourself up to success.

“I wonder how many times people give up just before a breakthrough – when they are on the very brink of success.” – Joyce Meyer

2. Get Started

Start small rather than quitting your job and stating something full time. Think about developing a side hustle first, and growing that to the point that it can replace your salary. Ben & Jerry’s started with a $5 correspondence course in ice cream technology. Vivien Westwood invented the mini skirt but started her fashion career selling homemade jewellery at a market stall on Portobello Road on weekends. Check out books like Side Hustle by Chris Guillebeau or 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss for ideas on how to get started.

3. Get Better Every Day

Once you have begun your journey, you will find yourself surrounded by competitors and collaborators and a natural tendency will be to compare yourself with them. The problem with that is everyone is moving at different speeds and at different points in their journey. It can be easy to become deflated if you compare yourself to people much further ahead of you.

Likewise, you can get complacent if you look how much further you have come than people who have just started. Instead, focus on how you can improve yourself each day. The Law of Marginal Gains proves that lots of small improvements eventually turn into huge progress, so try and improve a specific area by 1% every day and see how quickly that all adds up.

4. Network & Connect

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were introduced by a mutual contact. Harrison Ford got a huge break talking about his desire to be an actor when building cabinets for George Lucas. We don’t always know where the contacts we make when networking will take us, but without a strong network and group of contacts, your reach will always be limited.

When networking, think about specific groups of people you want to connect with. The cast of the original Ghostbusters movie all met doing Saturday Night Live. Ask yourself “what is the SNL of my industry?” and then find a way to get into that group of people.

“The richest people in the world look for and build networks, everyone else looks for work.” – Robert Kiyosaki

5. Teamwork

Players & Coaches Like Michael Jordan said, “talent wins games but teamwork wins championships”. The journey to success can be a long one, and we will need people around us to get all the way. Sometimes we need people to extend our bandwidth of what we can produce. Sometimes we need words of encouragement or someone to bounce ideas around with. Make sure you surround yourself with a team and coaches that will help you play at the level you deserve to be competing at.

So there you have it, these are the 5 steps to creating a breakthrough. There is no telling how long it will take for your breakthrough to arrive, so find a way to enjoy the journey. Ray Croc started McDonalds when he was 53. Vera Wang didn’t make wedding dresses until she was 39. Alan Rickman didn’t get a movie role until he was 28.

Take some small steps immediately after finishing this article. Commit to yourself today to take control of the breakthrough process, rather than waiting for it to happen to you. One day, and before too long, when you wake hoping that today will be the day for your breakthrough… it will be.

Random Stuff I Love That You’ll Probably Love Too.

It’s easy to focus on all the crap you hate or things that piss you off. Too much of life is spent complaining or talking about experiences or products that missed the mark.

I’d love, instead, to share some random stuff I love that you’ll love too like:

Cafes that encourage conversation.

Interruptions. Loud music. The need to get you seated and off your table as quickly as possible. These are all traditional flaws of a cafe.

The cafes I love are the ones that understand the power of conversation. Conversations are where lovers are born, businesses are created, careers are changed and emotions are shared. Nothing should ever get in the way of that.

The cafe is more important nowadays than the office. Real work gets done in cafes.

Waking up early.

There’s something seriously cool about being up before the rest of the planet. There’s this strange sense of calmness and you can think without interruption or noise. Working in the morning feels to me like I’m getting extra hours in the day.

I love mornings because of what they allow me to do, and also share with all of you.

People who show raw emotion.

Like that clip I saw on YouTube with an American guy singing “My Girl” by Michael Jackson which he’d changed into a song about his daughter. It had raw emotion, passion, moments of silence and it left me inspired.

Anyone who shows raw emotion is brave and I love it.

The beautiful countryside in Australia.

I just came back from Kangaroo Island in Australia and I saw wallabies, goannas, kangaroos (obviously), eagles, dolphins and seals.

The country I live in is beautiful and if you’re from overseas, then it’s great to visit. It’s a place that has so much beauty which will help take you out of your head and back into the present.

Seeing the result.

I love watching people bust their chops for years at a time and then finally get the result. A mate of mine was a failed musician for a long time. Everyone told him during the file sharing music era that he’d never make a dollar.

While he never became a big-name musician himself, he’s now got a multi-million-dollar music and entertainment business and is crushing it. He’s the nicest most humble guy too, which I love even more! Don’t you just love seeing people get the result?

Software that is dead simple to use.

We all have enough things to do each day and software that requires a manual kills our time. I love simple to use software that does what it says on the box.

Some examples of software I use are:

–    Grammarly

–    Calm meditation app

–    Mac OS High Sierra

The survivor phone cover on my iPhone.

My phone has been dropped from quad bikes, fallen out of my pocket while running and even had gym weights smack into it. Through it all, my survivor phone cover keeps my phone safe and doesn’t crack. Most phone covers made of plastic are rubbish but not this one.

Seeing people play with courage for the first time.

A rather junior guy in the company I work for reached out to me and asked me to be his mentor. The courage it took him to do that is something I love. He’ll never forget the experience despite the outcome and hopefully get addicted to it.

Well-thought-out videos.

Prince EA does some awesome ones on YouTube. They are poetic pieces written originally as raps that aim to change an entire culture and get us to think differently. They are short, sharp and clearly well-thought-out.

Storytelling fused with content, done in this way, is something I love. It generally goes viral too.

People who are inspiring.

Some people just have a natural ability to inspire others into action. Tony Robbins is an example. Martin Luther King is another. I love to be inspired and it’s what drives me to do the same.

Inspiring people is something I love because it carries so much power.

“You can literally make huge changes in the world through using inspiration”

Public transport.

It’s where I meditate and listen to podcasts. Some people hate the commute but I love it. I don’t need to drive a car and the train takes me where I need to go. Best of all, when public transport runs late, I get more time to listen to podcasts. Why would anyone ever drive?

What’s the ultimate thing I love?

Life itself.

“There’s so much to experience and so much positivity in the world if you can just stop looking at your phone for 5 seconds and notice it”

We have endless amounts of possibility hidden inside of us and each of us can do pretty much whatever we want. Through all the suffering we are guaranteed to experience in life, we can choose to still enjoy our time on Earth.

Life is what I love most of all. You can love it too.

Why Our Thoughts Are The Beginning of Everything We Do

Our thoughts are the beginning of everything we do—or don’t do. We all know of people who are extremely wealthy, living passionately, and making an impact on the world around them. It’s not a stretch to believe that the thoughts they think are high-caliber thoughts.

Anyone of us can probably also bring to mind people who have nothing much at all to show for their lives. They haven’t achieved anything significant, they live in fear and misery, and they make very little difference in the world around them.

Here are 3 things to think about when it comes down to creating constructive thoughts:

1. Typical Thoughts, Typical Results

This is the type of person I was for the majority of my adulthood. I didn’t believe that I could do the types of things other people do. I believed things wouldn’t work out for me, and I convinced myself that anybody else but me could be successful.

As would be expected from this very dependable universe we live in, the results were predictable. I didn’t achieve anything, I didn’t find success and I didn’t make an impact. But these results were really just the beginning of my pain—they led to some very devastating feelings as well. I began to experience high levels of frustration for what little I was getting out of life. I soon started to hate myself because I couldn’t do better; I couldn’t figure life out.

The types of thoughts I was thinking closed-off any real possibility for positive results. They dis-empowered me through my negative expectation, creating a limit on my ability to be successful.

“Change your thoughts and you change your world.” – Norman Vincent Peale

2. Awareness of Thought

Fortunately, I experienced a turn-around with my thoughts, and it all started with awareness. A shift happened in my perception and I was able to separate myself from them. Soon, I could begin to see that I am not the thoughts I think about myself. I realized that the real me has no labels.

The problem I was experiencing was that I took my negative beliefs and defined myself by them. Because the beliefs became me there wasn’t any way to escape them. And because they were so close to me a curious thing happened— I eventually became less conscious of them.

Most of the people in this world live day-to-day without any awareness of their thoughts. They become so much a part of them that they eventually fall into a blind-spot. They just stop seeing them. To be able to change our thoughts requires us to be aware of them. The good news is that this is a process we can have some control over.

In order to become aware of your thoughts, I suggest a simple but powerful method for identifying and working through them. Keep a journal with you and record your typical daily thoughts in it. Note them all, good, bad, and indifferent. Once you have them on paper you are able to see them as separate from you again. They become things that you can observe and question. As you begin to notice your thoughts you can trade them up for more beneficial ones.

“If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.” – Peace Pilgrim

3. Empowering Thoughts

All thoughts are creative. You can’t think a thought and not put something into motion. Our thoughts always produce some result. Now that I really understand this concept I can not only watch for and avoid the negative but I can willfully, with intention, think empowering thoughts.

An empowering thought is open-ended—it avoids limitation. It is also positive. It says things like, “I am,” “I will,” or “I can.” I consistently add these little, two-word phrases to my vocabulary every day now. I say them to myself with intention—I make them very real, deliberate thoughts. “I can do this speech. I will land that client. I am capable.” What started out as a very simple, “I can…,” resulted in a very small, but noticeable, return. That gave me a little more confidence and, with that, my intention increased and so did my results.

Now I find myself confidently creating empowering thoughts (intention) with greater faith in the truth with in them (expectation) and in their ability to create powerful things (manifestation).

Instead of a downward spiral, where the bad builds on the bad, it’s an empowering, upward spiral. My stronger, more empowering thoughts produce more powerful results, which makes my thoughts stronger, and so on. As time goes on my thinking becomes more empowering and I become more successful.

So, what do you think? Please add YOUR thoughts to the discussion below.

21 Profound Plato Quotes For Your Life Philosophy

Plato (c. 428 BCE –  c. 348 BCE) was a Greek philosopher, writer, teacher, public speaker, and Socrates’ most brilliant student. Because there aren’t any biographical sources from his time, we can know more about him from his writings and biographies were written 500 years after his death. How I Became A Viral Blogger: It’s Not What You Think.

I started blogging in 2014 with the intention of using social media to inspire the world. It took me only three blog posts to have my first viral article about how I transformed my life.

I’m going to tell you step-by-step how I became a viral blogger and achieved online success.

Step 1: Begin with no end in mind.

Listen to a friend who tells you to share your message and do it even though you have no idea what the end looks like. Write for a blog no one has ever heard of with a catchy, yet weird title. Become addicted to your craft and see where it leads you.

Act as if you are eight years old again and dream big. Even when it makes no sense, still dream big. A lot of people won’t understand why you’re doing it and that’s okay. What matters is you’re exploring your own ideas and feelings.

“What matters is you’re taking every bit of experience you have and sharing that with everyone”

The self-help books are wrong. You can try everything, but you’ll never predict the future. Your future will always be more beautiful than you could ever predict yourself. Embrace it.

Step 2: Fall flat on your face.

Lose all your material possessions and learn again what it’ like to live with a 2009 Mac computer and nothing else but your clothes. Take a job in a call centre for a company you know nothing about because a homeless friend of yours tells you to.

Eat canned vegetable soup every day that you buy on special once a month from the local supermarket. Learn to be humble as hell again while eating your canned soup and also eat sh*t in the form of your career.

Clock in at 11 am and clock out at 9 pm with only a 45-minute lunch break and some quick 15-minute breaks. Use your old Nokia phone with a numerical keypad (when everyone else has a smartphone) to time your breaks, so you don’t get in trouble with the call centre team leader.

To make things worse, tell your boss’s boss in the call centre that you used to be a successful entrepreneur and have him laugh very loud at you. Go back to your desk and eat some more sh*t.

Step 3: Refuse to do anything else.

Each night when you get home from work, refuse to do anything other than blogging. Resist the temptation to watch videos on YouTube and start writing and formatting articles. Spend hours trying to find the right photo for each piece you write because you care about your audience.

Have people you work with think you’ve lost the plot because you attended a Tony Robbins event.

Spend all the savings you have to buy the ticket to the event and crush your fear of flying at the same time on the way there. Walk on fire, meet a guy from a bank and watch your life change.

Know that personal development is crucial to any pursuit in life including blogging.

Step 4: Never give in to the haters.

As you accumulate a library of content online, watch the haters who are upset at the world find their way to your work.

Watch them take a metaphorical dump in the comment section of your articles.

Take the relevant feedback and delete everything else they say from your mind. Resist the temptation to leave a smart-ass comment, block them or dwell on their ideas. Haters come and haters go. Their problem is with themselves, not with you.

Step 4: Keep going…

After two years, watch not much happen. There will be a few milestones and highs but the vast majority of your work will be ignored or be invisible to most. Keep going.

Despite all the negative thoughts in your head about why you suck at blogging, or have nothing valuable to say, or look ridiculous in professionally shot bio photos, keep going.

Step 5: And some more…

After another year, watch the same nothingness transpire and still keep going. Take a promotion from your dead-end call centre job to another call centre where you can work from home.

“Watch people continue to laugh at you because you went from being an entrepreneur to a call centre operator”

Know that your dead-end job is teaching you valuable sales skills that you’ll later share in articles written about the topic. These sales focused blog posts will eventually go viral later on even though you don’t realize it now.

Even when it seems like no one is listening, keep going – people are listening, by the way.

Step 6: Post on LinkedIn despite the fact it could ruin your career.

Have your boss tell you to try something new. Decide to join LinkedIn even though you’re scared that people you hate from your entrepreneurial days will find you and want to upset you.

Know that posting on social media when you work for a brand name company is risky and do it anyway. Be bold and do the following:

  • Use swear words (if that’s how you talk)
  • Share embarrassing moments
  • Post career stories about people at work that piss you off and risk them finding out

Play Russian Roulette with your career because you know that your vision is bigger than you and your intentions are in the right place.

Use swear words, embarrassing moments and career stories to inspire rather than impress people. Keep posting on LinkedIn daily even though your self-help advice seems out of place on a business networking platform.

Step 7: Overcome mental health issues and talk about it.

At the same time as blogging, overcome mental health issues. Take the plunge and get professional help and make a decision to be the best version of yourself. Try everything from self-talk, books, weird card reading fortune teller imposters, medication and even alcohol to make things better.

Come to the realization that mental illness can only be overcome by getting up close and personal with yourself.

Go through a process of self-discovery. Stop giving a fuck about what people think along the way. You’re sick and you need help. End of story.

Once you end the burden of mental illness, blog about it. Tell people and share your stories. It’s the right thing to do and it will make you authentic to your audience.

Step 8: Follow someone you want to be.

Through blogging, find online mentors who you want to be like. Follow them on their social media channels and consume their content.

Surround yourself with people online who can inspire your own work and creativity. Become obsessed with what your online mentors do.

Step 9: Succeed with something that took 30-minutes to produce.

Come home from work one night, tired, grumpy and with a headache, and write an article about your successful friends. Keep it raw, forget grammar and post it straight away. Assume it’s going to flop and move on.

Wake up the next day and watch the one time you didn’t give a f*ck be your blogging career highlight so far.

“Understand in that moment that imperfection, authenticity and vulnerability are all that matters in blogging”

Step 10: Have a high volume of failed romantic relationships.

Meet a girl, date her for three years and realize she’s not the one. Meet another girl at work and become indoctrinated by religion. Realize who you really are and leave that girl too.

Go on more than fifty Tinder dates in a matter of months even though you’ve never done online dating and might be spotted by your friends and co-workers. Find a short, little cutie that lets you blog and doesn’t bust your chops. Fall in love. Keep blogging.

Step 11: Release anger that’s built up.

Realize you’re pissed off at your dad for a bunch of stuff he didn’t do on purpose and forgive him. See that he’s only trying to set you up for success using the models of the world that you view as out of date.

See his intentions for what they are. Release the anger towards him and keep blogging.

Step 12: Forgive.

When Christmas rolls around, make the decision to forgive your brother for the BS problems he caused you when you were in business together. Have a family dinner with him and your parents and watch them be proud. Go home after dinner and keep blogging.

Step 13: Continue working a career that no longer makes sense.

Realize this fact and then apply the same dating process mentioned earlier to your career. Decide that your next business or job is going to be something closely aligned with your passion.

Open up LinkedIn one day and have the owner of the business you’ve always wanted to work for message you asking for a phone call. Spend 15-minutes on the phone with him and have goosebumps all over your body.

Have a second phone call with him and experience the same thing again. Have him tell you he’s flying over to come and see you and allow you access to the very people that inspired you to blog in the first place.

Step 14: Narrow down your platforms.

Delete low performing social media channels and force yourself to focus on two from now on.

“Despite the career highlights, don’t get all cocky and keep blogging through the high’s, just like you did the lows”

Step 15: Never give up.

After four and a bit years and doing everything you can to make yourself a better person, make one final decision: never give up.

  • Keep blogging and make it a habit
  • Don’t ignore everything else that surrounds your blogging like your health and family
