5 Reasons Why You Aren’t Going to Reach Your Goals This Year

Are you done with the new year new me stuff yet? I’m so over it. Mind you, I gave up the whole new year’s resolutions thingy years ago. I was so done setting myself up for major disappointment that usually came within 3 weeks. So last year was a write off for many of us, am I right?

I suffered one blow after another. By November, I was mentally and emotionally drained, not to mention financially tapped out too. It was a nightmare and I’m glad it’s over. The last two weeks of December, things finally started shifting for me. It was a beautiful end to what I’m going to label “The Worst Year Ever.” It gave me hope that things were going to be ok.

This year I decided I wasn’t going to make the same mistakes I made last year. I couldn’t survive 2 years in a row like that. This year I decided to grow up and get stuff done. I had to revisit 2018 to see what went wrong. Though much of it was personal, I discovered a lot of it had to do with the following things.

Here are 5 reasons why you’re not going to reach your goals this year:

1. You don’t believe you can reach your goals

Seriously. You set a goal, you looked at it, you thought a lot about it and how to do it, but you stopped there. You know it’s going to be hard to reach it, and it’s going to take a lot of work that you’re not used to doing. You’re not sure you’re up for all the hard work, and you really don’t believe you can achieve your goal but looking at it makes you feel good.

Why bother setting a goal if you don’t believe in yourself? Do you not want to reach it? Of course you do. You need to start believing that you can! So many of us have had limiting beliefs plugged in since childhood that leave us feeling unworthy and full of self doubt. It’s time to shut those voices up, pull up your big girl/boy panties and remind yourself “YOU CAN DO THIS.”

2. You’re scared of success

You are. Who wouldn’t be? Many of us are afraid of success. Success is scary! We don’t even know what it feels or tastes like. We are terrified of the unknown. You wish to be standing on stage with your idol giving a speech. You dream of it and almost taste it, but it sure is scary. Perhaps, you want to be a best selling author. That’s scary too!

Do you not feel you deserve success? Do you think you’re not good enough to be on stage with your idols? Maybe you think you can’t write well enough for a best seller? Do you not want success? Yes you do and you are good enough! If you run away from success all the time because of fear, when will you ever achieve it then?

“Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the “someday I’ll” philosophy.” – Denis Waitley

3. You lack focus

You know what you want but you have no clear path to get there or you can’t actually even conceptualize it. It’s like you’re drawing on an Etch A Sketch, or maybe you have shiny object syndrome?

You’ve got to write your goal out and take some time to jot down the action steps you need to take to make it happen. You will have to do research and be clear on how you want your goal to manifest. Take notes, write your goal out on a bristle board (or white board) so you can look at it daily! Review it daily and work on it daily. Don’t be wishy washy with your ideas or visualization. See it exactly how you want it and then do what you have to do to get there!

4. You‘re listening to the wrong people

Not everyone knows what they’re talking about. Even the gurus sometimes don’t have all the answers. You will have people tell you your idea is dumb. Stop listening to everyone. Remember, some people secretly don’t even want you to succeed and will pay to watch you fall.

It can be overwhelming reading blogs and following masters who have already done what we want to do (stick to one or two). There is a ton of information out there and you may find yourself drowning in blog reading overload. Follow your heart and don’t get overwhelmed. Keep your focus and ignore the peeps who don’t want you to succeed. They’re just jealous.

“Haters are fans in denial.” – Adam Rippon

5. You won’t step out of your comfort zone

Nothing good comes from your comfort zone, but you already knew that. I get that the comfort zone is a really cozy place to be, but you can’t stay there. Your goal will force you to do things you are terrified of doing.

You have got to be courageous and do things you normally wouldn’t do in order to achieve your goals. Some things may make you feel really uncomfortable and scared, do them anyway. You won’t get anywhere if you don’t take chances.

You are not here for mediocrity. How long are you going to keep hanging on to those limiting beliefs and this fear for? They serve no purpose. It’s time to stop thinking that your goal is too big for you.

How are you going to make sure you achieve your goals this year? Let us know below!

Here’s Why People Change and How You Can Too

I was recently participating in a family event. As I was walking by I heard someone saying: “well what can you do about it… That’s her character, and people can’t change.” The fact that people believe that character and attitude can’t be changed always surprises me. I keep hearing this from people who are considered educated yet with all those university degrees, it feels like some very basic truths are missed.

Everything is either growing or disintegrating

Everything in our world is either growing or disintegrating, including our bodies and minds. Likewise a person’s character or attitude is continuously changing. The reason many people think they can’t change is because of habits. A habit is an action that requires no conscious mental effort. This action is so ingrained in us, that we don’t give any thought of whether or not to perform it.

For example, did you have to decide whether to get dressed this morning? Since habits help us manage the data load of our everyday lives, we are usually inclined to make more of them. We become so accustomed to them, that we think they control our lives. That’s why most people think they can’t change. They believe that their habits are stronger than they are. The truth is that our habits are as strong as the power we give them.

Changing our habits is something that requires a big enough reward to do so. If we feel the reward for changing our behavior is big enough, then it would have more power than the habit. So how can you change your attitude?

Here are 3 ways that will help you change yourself and your attitude:

1. Construct a new habit

If habits are ingrained in our behavior it’s only logical that changing them will change our attitude. Choose a habit you wish to change. For example: arriving late for meetings. Start working on it. Be there 20 minutes before the meeting, and then do it again and again. You might think that a new habit takes 21-30 days to form. This is probably not true and originates in a mix of study and folklore.

The more recent studies show that habits take anywhere between 18-254 days to become fully automated. This is not to discourage you from trying out a new habit, but rather so you know that changing habits takes time. So if you slip up on adopting your new habit it’s completely okay, don’t beat yourself up for it.

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” – George Shaw

2. Think different thoughts

Our thoughts are vibrations in certain frequencies that we send out. Whatever we send out, the universe returns back.  Just think of a radio station that is tuned to a certain station. Each station is a different frequency, and in order to receive a different broadcast, we simply change the tuned frequency.

This is the same with our thoughts. Once we change the frequency of our thoughts, we would receive different results. So negative (low-frequency) thoughts will bring negative results, and high-frequency thoughts will bring positive results.

Use the below exercise to change your thoughts:

Choose any object. It could be a person or an inanimate object that has some relation to yourself. For 5 minutes, think about all the good things this object/person brings into your life. How does that object/person make your life easier or more enjoyable? Then, focus on acknowledging the good and give thanks for having that object/person in your life. This exercise immediately switches the vibration you are currently on into a more positive one. It is actually possible to feel the change of feeling when we give thanks for the good in our life.

3. Adopt a new perspective

The way we look at things affects our thoughts about them. Everything just is. We are the ones that give meaning to it based on the way we perceive it. So changing our behavior can be achieved by changing the way we perceive things.

Let’s say that you didn’t manage to complete your daily tasks one day. One perspective could be that there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything. However, shifting the perspective could mean that we could look at the situation as if you are simply prolific. You are simply a very fruitful person. Feels better, right?

One exercise to help shift your perspective is to write down whatever bothers you on a piece paper. Then sit a table where you can see the paper. Choose 2-3 people you respect and think highly of. They could be someone you personally know, or even historical figures (my favorite is Churchill).

Then sit at the table with the paper in front and say out loud everything that bothers you about the written subject. Once you finish, move to a different place at the table and imagine what one of the people you chose think about the situation. What would he have to say? Act as that person, and say his thoughts out loud.

Do that a few times while switching chairs and people, so you’d have a range of perspectives to choose from. Then adopt the perspective that you like best.

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates

Our attitude towards things is comprised of our thoughts, feelings and actions. These three are inseparable. Just as if you have a cake, which has ingredients that construct the whole, so does our attitude and it is constructed of these 3 parts.

We can change the minute we decide to. Our attitude is plastic, and can change at any point in life. It only requires us to decide we want to change, commit to our decision and keep at it until we feel the shift. After that, repeating the new pattern would make it our new nature. So next time you hear someone say that people can’t change, tell them how you did.

Quit Focusing On The Outcome — A Simple Way To Get More Of What You Want.

2 Ways of Setting Goals Without Being SMART

When you are looking to set your very first life goals and start to do some research, chances are, you’ll discover a method called the “SMART” goal setting strategy very early on. Sure, this is a great method that you can use in order to ensure each of the goals that you set can be achieved, but the SMART method can also be a little complicated for those who are not used to the entire process.

Furthermore, a lot of people are just looking for a way they can set up a few goals in the simplest way possible and then strive toward reaching them. The good news is that there is more than just one way to go about setting goals.

While the SMART method is certainly one of the more popular options that you can opt for, you can also go with any of the other options that people have developed and still be able to reach the goals you wish to achieve in life effectively.

Plus, if you’re used to the SMART method, introducing a few alternative methods often stimulates different thinking patterns, which in turn may expand your thinking or scope of goals!

Here are 2 Alternative Goal-Setting Strategies To the SMART Method:

1. Simple Goal Setting Strategy

First up is the easiest option that you can opt for if you wish to set goals without having to go through a time-consuming process – a simple goal setting strategy. This primarily involves setting your goal in a specific timeframe, and then determining what needs to be done for you to be able to achieve that particular goal.

With a simple goal setting strategy, you start by defining the goal you want to achieve as specifically as possible. Try to avoid goals that are too vague like “I want to save some money.” Be specific, like “I want to save $5000 for a new car” or “I want to save $2000 to install new kitchen cupboards.” When you are specific, you know exactly what you are striving towards. This also makes it easier to know exactly what needs to be done and keeps you focused.

Afterwards, you need to determine an appropriate time frame. Specify when you are going to start implementing actions to help you reach the goal and also when you wish to achieve the goal.

Be realistic when it comes to setting a timeframe – if you need to save up $2000, but you can only spare $200 per month, don’t expect your goal to be reached within just a three-month period, for example. Unless you’re going to drastically change habits or start a side hustle for extra income.

Finally, determine what you need to do, what actions you need to take, and what should happen between the start and finish date of your goal. Action planning is often overlooked when setting goals, however it is proven to be one of the most valuable behaviors that contribute towards success in meeting goals.

Write down every step of the process in order to make things as simple as possible for yourself. This way, you’ll be able to check back on the list at any time in order to see what you currently need to do, and what actions to do next if you wish to achieve the goal you have set.

“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” – Confucius

2. CLEAR Goal Setting Strategy

The CLEAR Goal Setting Strategy is similar to the SMART one. It has also been growing in popularity with many people moving toward this method. There are various reasons for this, but the flexibility offered by the CLEAR method is one of the main reasons people are starting to convert their SMART goal worksheet into a CLEAR goal worksheet.

CLEAR stands for:

  • Collaborative – Who else do I need involved? Who is my core team? Who am I serving? Why do these connections matter?
  • Limited – What is the scope? How can I keep focused? When do I start? And when do I need results by?
  • Emotional – Does it serve my larger purpose? Does it meet my needs? Does it stimulate me?
  • Appreciable – What are the small actions? How to make this more actionable? What are my stepping stones?
  • Refinable – What do I see changing? What paths or options do I have, and when? Can the goals change as I change, or my circumstances change?

It’s important to note at this point that the CLEAR strategy was mainly invented to assist businesses where teams need to work together to achieve a specific goal. This, however, does not mean that the CLEAR method cannot be used in your own life to set personal goals for yourself.

When you set a goal with this method in mind, the ultimate goal or the big picture that you are aiming for should have a few qualities:

  • Both duration and scope of the goal should be limited – in other words, you should be able to limit the amount of time it would take you to reach the goal, and the goal should be specific enough for you to understand what you are aiming for truly.
  • The goal should have an emotional connection for you. Something that has meaning for you as a person. If your goal is to lose weight, then the emotional connection will likely be related to your own health, how you feel about yourself, and how other people view you.
  • The goal should be specific, but, at the same time, be flexible. Life is unpredictable – so if anything changes in the period of time that you are striving to achieve a specific goal, then the goal you have set should be adjustable. You need to be able to make modifications to the goal in order to accommodate the specific changes that have occurred in your life.

“Goals allow you to control the direction of change in your favor.” – Brian Tracy

Even though the SMART goal setting method is very popular, it’s not the only option out there for people who are looking to set their first life goals. If you are not too keen on the SMART method, then look at the alternatives listed. They are all very powerful and will be just as effective in helping you achieve the goals.

The 2 Behaviors That Will Guarantee Your Success

Everyone understands, or has felt at some point in their life, the value of heightened enthusiasm. You know, those times when you woke up early, and everything in your day was a constant stream of endless activity that developed results and brought you into connections with the people or the places to make your dreams happen. Let’s call it being on a psychological roll!

Enthusiasm itself has several subcomponents attached to it, but for now I’m sure you will agree that our level of enthusiasm will begin to move us toward our desired goal. As a matter of fact, the greater the level of enthusiasm, the greater the velocity of us moving toward our objective.

But have you ever considered the fact that it might also be possible to move our goal toward us? Think about it, why should we be making all the necessary effort to move toward our goal, when we can just as easily exhibit a second behavior, in addition to enthusiasm, which will move our goal toward us.

So, if the first behavior that we have to exhibit in this law of metaphysical magnetism is enthusiasm, and enthusiasm moves us toward our goal, what is the second behavior which will move our goal toward us?

The answer is behaving in a spirit of gratitude! When I say gratitude I don’t simply mean saying in your car, “Thank you for having the lights stay green for me.” I mean a deep, sincere gratitude.

Wallace Wattles in his 1910 work entitled “The Science of Getting Rich”, says it this way, “Many people who order their lives rightly in all other ways are kept in poverty by their lack of gratitude.” Wattles further states, “There is a lot of gratitude and if you are to get the results you seek, it is absolutely necessary that you should observe this law.”

The underlying physics behind gratitude is easy to understand. Gratitude is a thought. All thoughts vibrate at a certain frequency. Gratitude vibrates at a very high frequency. The end result is that as we begin to show gratitude for us moving toward our goal, the level of gratitude we display begins to move our goal toward us. The end result of this process is a very efficient manner of reaching our goal much quicker.

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” – Oprah Winfrey

How do we go about building desire displaying more gratitude? The fact is, most of us simply don’t know exactly what we want. We might have vague notions of not having to work or having enough money to be worry free, but, if you really want to build desire, it is important to get way down into the foxholes of your consciousness. Basically, you need to be aware of what it is you want! Be specific!

In order to build desire you need to follow these 3 steps:

  • Set up a 30 minute time slot where you won’t be disturbed.
  • Look at your life with the eyes you had when you were a child. Every day was a new adventure; life was an ever-opening flower. Go back to being a child with wide eyed anticipation and unswerving faith that you will not be denied of your hearts desires.
  • Now, fill in the blank. Do it without the judge’s robe on. Do it as a child! List what you really truly want from life. Feel your blood pulse, your breath shorten and your excitement built. That is desire!

“The starting point of all achievement is desire.” – Napoleon Hill

Now that you know how to find desire, follow the next steps to build gratitude:

  • When was the last time you were thankful for your eyes, ears, feet, fingers? Give thanks for the simple things in your life.
  • Whatever it was that you desired (see above), give thanks! It is already yours. You need to receive it. Don’t sit down and wait for it to happen. Keep working, and work harder than you ever did, because what you desire is on the way.
  • Be grateful for the people that come into your life, even the ones you don’t like. They are there for a reason. Either they will guide you or you will learn a valuable lesson from them.

The steps above should create a psychological environment for you to begin to wrap your tentacles around what you want out of life.

Guess what? There is an added benefit. As you begin to use the above system, you will not only move toward what you want, and what you want will begin to move toward you, you will begin to enjoy the journey.

What’s one thing you truly desire to accomplish this year? How will you get it done? Let us know below!

5 Reasons to Start the Side Hustle You’ve Been Dreaming About Right Now

The world is full of people that want to start a business, but few of them move past the dreaming stage. They’re caught up in the idea rather than the action, and they forget the hard work that goes into making a business happen isn’t always as fun as sitting there thinking about it.

What’s stopping most people is a fear that something will go wrong. That they’ll be a complete failure. That they’ll lose the respect of their family and their friends. People often need a reason to start something big like a side hustle, but it doesn’t have to be scary. It can be as easy as picking up the phone and asking a friend if they’d buy into your product or idea, or going online and setting up a Facebook page outlining your business idea.

If you actually had the willpower necessary to start something and to be successful, the chances are that you wouldn’t actually be reading this article. But for most of us, we need a little push.

Here are 5 reasons to start that side hustle you’ve been dreaming about NOW:

1. The times are changing

More and more people are doing gig work and joining the gig economy. A higher percentage of people are surviving without formal jobs, and are even managing to make comfortable livings working only on digital side hustles. As more people embrace flexible working, it’s important to stay at the top of emerging trends and ways of earning a living.

“There is no downside to a side hustle. There are only benefits to building more than one source of income. A side hustle is the new job security.” – Forbes

2. Nerdy is the new sexy and the new rich

Digital startups, side hustles and passion projects are the new sexy these days. Investing time in one of these side hustles is a fantastic way to develop oneself and gain more self confidence in both your career and your personal life. Those with a digital specialty are more able to be competitive in a constantly changing environment and are likely to earn higher salaries and be more successful financially in the long run.

3. It will help you develop self awareness

Planning ahead, organizing, and managing marketing for a project or side hustle will help you grow as a person. Setting aside one to two hours a day to focus on a side project will help you develop a deeper sense of self awareness and help you identify what really matters most to you. It will also help you to focus and prioritize.

4. Finding flow is the first step to happiness

Starting a business requires mindfulness and the ability to act with persistence. The ability to prioritize what matters to you and then act upon it requires persistence and the ability to come up with a list of actions to take to reach a stated objective. Reaching these objectives typically requires entering into a state of flow. We enter a state of flow when we busy ourselves working on something that is both enjoyable and challenging.

5. The path will set you free

At the end of the day, starting your own side hustle helps you become free in your personal and professional life. The main reason that people are attracted to the idea of side hustles is that it provides you with a sense of freedom and openness to explore new things. The freedom you get from not having to answer to anyone but yourself can be freeing. It can also be invigorating to use your own creativity to develop a product which can help people and serve a greater purpose.

“Don’t wait for the right moment to start the business. It never arrives. Start whenever. Now.” – Lauris Liberts

So how do you start now? It just takes one little step. One little action. As soon as you finish reading this, pick up the phone to a friend. Write that email to a mentor. Post that Facebook post announcing your intention to create that next big thing. The simple action of writing something down or communicating something to others can mean the difference between never acting on an idea and building a business which could change your life forever.

Don’t let the opportunity slip you by and pass you up. Every little action you take, over and over again, will build up and grow into something great. The chance to start something, to create something all your own, that is what you gain by acting now. Don’t start thinking of the end result. Rather think about this as a grand experiment, a study of empathy, personal development and motivation. And for god’s sake start now, as quickly as possible.

The author makes readers realize ways in which technology is consuming a major portion of the day and how they can stop letting technological advancements control their lives.

The focus revolves around concentrating on the important tasks instead of trying to do everything. Eat That Frog suggests measures to utilize every day effectively and how one can accomplish all the required tasks without any delay just by avoiding procrastination. The concepts of decision, determination, and discipline are given special emphasis as these are the three pillars that determine how successful a person can become.

3 Lessons From a Race Car Driver: How to Prepare When There’s No Time to Practice

Race car drivers don’t get much time to train the way other professional athletes do. Expenses such as track rental and entry fees, paying team members to help, and hospitality logistics make it tough. Often, we don’t practice until the actual race weekend, when you’re lucky if you get to participate in a handful of 30-minute track sessions.

Yet, everything has to play out perfectly from the seat of my Lamborghini — one error can be disastrous at worst and cost you a strong finish at best. That means we have to get creative about honing our craft if we want to succeed.

The old adage that practice makes perfect is nice in theory, but in some industries, practicing isn’t always possible. It’s hard to practice skills when you’re expected to immediately execute on them.

Startup leaders, for example, must rely on themselves to wear many hats. They likely don’t yet have a fully-fledged team of people who have mastered their skills and are experts in their field. When a problem or opportunity arises, entrepreneurs must be able to learn fast and perform perfectly. There’s no time and less money, but the work has to be done and done well.

So how do you stay on top of your game when there’s no time for dress rehearsal or a rough draft? Here are a three things I’ve learned as a professional race car driver:

1. Research all you can

There have been times when I couldn’t gather data or in-car video of the race I was about to compete in. However, I could find a video online of a pro taking a lap around the track and make notes from that.

Feel like there are missing pieces in a project? Open yourself up to other resources. Seek out ideas that might not seem related at first. In the digital age, we can find just about anything online. You open many more doors to success and opportunity once you get creative about the learning process.

Part of your research should include talking to others who have been through similar experiences. If I hadn’t driven a track before but know someone who has, you can bet I’ll ask what the experience was like.

Focus on others’ experience, not necessarily on their advice. Learn what stood out to them, what help they wish they had, or what surprised them. From there, you can create your own solutions based on what you’ve already researched and learned.

“I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” – Abraham Lincoln

2. Make sure your mind and body are ready to perform

The best thing you can do to aid in performance — especially if you’re called upon to act without the chance to prepare — is to commit to constant maintenance of your body and mind.

If you feel physically strong and your mental game is in tip-top shape, you’ll be that much more equipped to handle unforeseen challenges. Physical workout preparation is very important to my on-track performance. The temperature can reach 155 degrees, easily, in race car cockpits, and the physical toll of controlling the machine is no joke. Each brake application is equivalent to 150 to 200 pounds of strain on your body, and steering loads can reach up to 55 pounds.

Add to that the constant lateral and longitudinal forces pulling at your body against the harness, and you can see why race car driving is a sport. I once lost four pounds from sweating alone in one race. So I’ve learned to keep myself in optimum physical and mental condition. That way, I’m always ready for a challenge — whenever it might spring up.

Keep your body and mind in performance-ready shape by prioritizing sleep, hydration, and proper fueling. These practices keep you mentally fresh, concentrated, and happy. If you can’t practice, at least you can prepare yourself to jump on any new opportunity that comes your way.

3. Keep data on your past performances

Just because we’re not able to practice doesn’t mean we can’t stay engaged in our performance. Data acquisition is without question the fastest way to improve your driving — or any performance. For race car drivers, data logging is as vital as stock reports are for investors. It should be similar for any professional.

The reams of information that data systems provide can help a driver evaluate and identify areas to improve. Through the many channels of data, the system allows you to graphically see how much speed you carried into a bend, if changing a technique on a lap was helpful, or whether your throttle application is efficient. Once you have those insights, the key becomes finding out why certain strategies are stronger. This turns driver “feel” into science.

Investing time and resources into tracking data will convert into real-life application. Even entrepreneurs and business leaders need to be able to study their past performances, find out what worked, and look for areas where it’s appropriate to try something new. Tracking key performance metrics will help you filter what’s relevant and what’s not, allowing you to speed ahead to a worthy solution.

“Study the past, if you would divine the future.” – Confucius

Whether race car driving or developing a new app you’re trying to get funding for, there’s more to it than “practice makes perfect.” And thank goodness for that! Performing when you haven’t had the chance to properly prepare is all about hustle, hard work, persistence, and putting yourself in the best position possible to execute flawlessly.

Which one of the 3 lessons could you apply most to your life to achieve everything you want this year? Let us know below!

6 Surefire Ways to Motivate Marketers in 2019

If your company did well in 2018, you must be sitting there challenged with a thought inside your head – How can I continue the streak and keep up my marketing game this year? You have knocked yourself enough to meet your 2018 goals, and all you need now is a boost of morale to face all that 2019 has in store for you.

The first two months of the year can be really sluggish when it comes to sales success thus adding on to the reason why marketers fail to show enthusiasm in their endeavors. Staying motivated is easier said than done. So how can you actually push yourself to give your best marketing efforts?

To keep the force alive, here are six proven ways that help you keep the focus on the path that you are in:

1. Create a calendar to see what lies ahead

It is only reasonable that marketers are going to feel anticipation and anxious at the thought of the hurdles that they might have to face in 2019. Therefore, the first step to motivation is to create a marketing schedule that can spread out all the trends that they can expect in 2019 evenly throughout the year. Once they have an understanding of the trends of the year, they can immediately start working on their strategies to make the most of the New Year.

The list can help you get excited about what’s coming down the road. They can start to think about the kind of technology and processes that can help them succeed this year. They can also evaluate what went wrong in the last year, learn from the mistakes and come up with a foolproof plan. The calendar can state out the Do’s and Don’ts for the year.

2. Freedom in experimentation and implementation

Marketing is all about experimenting and no one really knows what will work and what won’t. And the only way to hit the right note is to implement as much as possible. Marketers need the freedom to experiment their way through different types of campaigns. It is through the ability to experiment, that they are likely to find success. Trying out new tactics can keep things interesting.

Marketing is all about creativity and innovation. Every marketer is a creative communicator at heart and therefore having the freedom to try out things according to their taste can keep their chin up. This way even if they fail once, they will have the enthusiasm to pick themselves up and make another attempt.

“Always trying new things is always more fun, and it can be scary, but it’s always more fun in the end.” – John Krasinski

3. Measure success and improvement

Unless you get an idea of how your tactic is working, you will not make the necessary changes. When a marketer sees that one of his/her designed campaigns is yielding the desired results, he or she will get a reason to work harder. Marketers will give their best only when they get constant iteration.

Tracking the progress and being able to understand the overall impact on business success will help them utilize their passion. This way, they can create a business strategy that has great market potential. Moreover, measuring data to track progress will help them understand how close they are to their goals.

4. Focus on the previous clients

Right at the start of the year, your business is bound to be slow, and it can take a month or two for things to fall in place. Instead of trying to bring in new clients, target your existing customers to build a stronger relationship with them.

Marketers can even try and push new products to the existing clientele and reconnect with the ones who have been inactive for a while. This will help them understand the customer’s psyche and increase the rate of customer satisfaction.

5. Freedom to choose the work environment

Right after the yuletide, it is normal to miss the holiday season and work in the sluggish winter months. The sheer task of getting yourself up from bed in the frosty morning and dragging yourself to the office can be quite challenging.

When marketers enjoy the freedom to work from home, they feel more comfortable which in turn increases their efficiency. With the prerogative to choose their shift timings and work whenever and wherever, they are at their productive best. Providing them with the freedom to choose their work environment can bring about significant improvement in their performance.

“We like to give people the freedom to work where they want, safe in the knowledge that they have the drive and expertise to perform excellently, whether they [are] at their desk or in their kitchen. Yours truly has never worked out of an office, and never will.” -  Richard Branson

6. Take a pause

Marketing comes with its share of rejection and failure, so you must have the attitude to accept it. Even when your marketing assumption goes wrong, you must see the bigger picture. Even through failure, you can learn something that may get you closer to the goal. Since marketing keeps on evolving, you get to explore and learn new channels and tools.

Don’t be too hard on yourself when you fail. Take a break to determine what you want to do, and realize that everything you do cannot go right all the time. What is most important is that you remember to enjoy the things that you do.

It is imperative to keep marketers motivated because it is their productivity that can drive a company to the zenith of success. A motivated marketer can work harder and be more creative with their ideas. In the end, remember that as a marketer you must be true to what you do and work ethically! Have the patience to see your dreams come out in tangible results.

4 Real Ways to Turn Your Passion and Expertise Into an Online Business

Do you have what it takes to turn your passion or expertise into a real online business? Even if you don’t, today we are going to walk through some of the best ways to start making money online, while also showing off your expertise and passion in the process.

1. Create an Online Course or Membership Site

If you have a skill or expertise in something that can help or teach others, then you definitely have something that you could turn into a business. However, thanks to the power of the internet, you don’t need to rent out fancy halls, be a professional speaker, or even try to sell one-on-one consulting or products.

One of the biggest trends lately for people looking to get started with their own brand or business is to launch an online course or membership site. Even more exciting is that there are very low startup costs and little-to-no need for technical or design skills.

Thanks to solutions like Kajabi, anyone can go live with an online course of their own in just hours. This drag and drop solution makes it easy to set up a new site, add video, quiz or text content, set up a members-only area, and start nurturing leads and accepting payments from customers in no time.

Don’t think you have a skill or expertise that people will want to pay to learn? Simply head over to Google and start searching around for businesses similar to yours. I’m sure you will find a ton of experts who are already making some nice money by selling their knowhow and skills to others.

2. Start a Blog and Get a Feel for Content Creation and SEO

Have you thought about starting a website or blog, but are still sitting on the sidelines? Have you also seen articles about top bloggers making millions online? If you have, you are likely overwhelmed with the concept or process of getting started.

The good news is, going live with a website is extremely fast, easy, and often profitable! With WordPress, anyone can go live with a site of their own and start publishing content in just minutes. Just like going live with an online course or membership site, WordPress also requires no technical or design skills.

Once you go live with your site, you are going to need some traffic. Be sure to study up on SEO (search engine optimization) and the best working methods for social media to start bringing traffic to your sites. With all of this in place, you can then start focusing on different monetization methods such as using Google Adsense or affiliate marketing.

3. Make Your First Few Dollars Online with Freelance Writing

Did you know that people are making money from the comfort of their homes, while writing in their free time? It’s true and you don’t even need higher education or an English degree to make it happen.

As we all know, the internet is loaded with websites and blogs – all of which need new content. Sites like Textbroker and FreelanceMyWay allow anyone to sign up for their freelance writing platforms, which allows them to get paid for their writing skills. Best of all, there are no costs involved to get started.

If you enjoy writing about anything, this might be a perfect opportunity for you to start making money online with your own freelance business. The more writing you complete, and the better your reviews and ratings, the more you can earn writing in your spare time.

4. Get Yourself on Fiverr and Work Your Way Up

Maybe you aren’t an expert in your field, a great writer, or simply don’t have an interest in blogging or starting a site. Don’t give up yet, there’s always something new around the corner. For individuals that have an idea or a unique service to provide to others, Fiverr.com might be exactly what you are looking for!

The microjob marketplace has gotten a lot of flack over the years for their super low job rates, and for some of the low quality or spammy jobs on the site – however, there are thousands of great workers on the site that make a ton of money in the process.

We are talking about everything from graphic design, drawing, data entry, singing, transcription, and so much more. The best way to get a real understanding of how it all works, is to simply check out their site and seeing what all the fuss is about.

What Are You Waiting For? Go Make Some Money!

Now that you’ve seen what’s possible when it comes to making money online and starting a business of your own, it’s time to actually get started. The first step is to once again skim through each of the methods above. Then write or map out a plan of attack for how you can create a service or provide value to an audience, then also monetize it as well – after all, we are trying to start a business and not just do charity work!

Lastly, take a look at other big players in your niche market and see what they are doing. Study the competition, put everything into action, and find your own success and fame with an online business.
